I swear that Master C's train obsession is growing by the day! Hours and hours are spent with him on the living room floor, pushing trains around the wooden track that regularly snakes around the legs of the kitchen table and trips me up on my way to make a cup of tea. He recently seems to have clocked that mummy is sent toys to review and for about two weeks our walk home from school would involve him asking me if anyone had sent me any "toy trains for work". Imagine his delight one day before the school Easter holidays when I was able to tell him that I had been sent the Brio Special ... read more
Interplay Pocket Microscope
For absolutely ages now Little Miss C has been obsessed with the idea of becoming an explorer and naturalist of some kind. She loves nothing more than being outdoors and hunting for insects and bugs. We have so many bug hotels situated around the garden - many of them made from old shoeboxes and other things pilfered from my recycling bin. It therefore seemed perfect to ask her to review the Pocket Microscope from Interplay. We've had handheld magnifying glasses before in various kits, but this is the first time that she's had a microscope to play with. In the box you get the microscope ... read more
The Powerpuff Girls Story Maker Dine and Dash Playset
I'm not quite sure how the Powerpuff Girls arrived in our lives, but they most certainly did so with a bit of a bang. Little Miss C just suddenly knew all about Blossom, Bubble and Buttercup and their father Professor Utonium. LMC loves nothing more than having strong female role models to look up to and that's exactly what these girls are. It does seem slightly bonkers though (and makes me feel rather old) that next year the series will be 20 years old. How is that possible??? LMC was therefore thrilled when I brought home the new Dine and Dash Storymaker playset for her to review. ... read more
Review: Teksta Micro Pets Raccoon Adventure Park
As a family we've not really played with robotic Artificial Intelligence pets before. I've seen the original Teksta puppy being demonstrated, but being sent one of the new generation of Micro Pets was my first change to get my hands on one of these little cuties and try it out for myself. We were sent Raccoon variant of the new Teksta Micro Pets Adventure Park and what you get inside the box is the interactive pet raccoon, plus several pieces of track that can be fitted together, and a ball for your new pet to play with. Now, let's start with the track. This is made of plastic and ... read more
Review: Ravensburger Thomas Giant Floor Puzzle
Master C is absolutely train mad at the moment. One of his favourite things to do when out is pretend to be a train and make everyone with him be his "carriages" and run behind him from station to station. Every night I tuck him upon bed under his Thomas the Tank Engine duvet and most nights we're reading Thomas books as bedtime stories. It's therefore no surprise at all that he was delighted to sent this Thomas Giant Floor Puzzle to review by Ravensburger. With 24 pieces this puzzle is just about the right size of puzzle for Master C to tackle on his own now. He's had some jigsaws ... read more
Review: Brio Fire Station and Rescue Helicopter
In some ways Master C is such a stereo-typical boy. I never really got the boy / girl difference thing until I had one of each and the first time I found Master C crawling around the kitchen floor pushing a car in a way that I'd never seen Little Miss C play. It was really strange and almost a light bulb moment about the fact that boys and girls do indeed have something different inside their brains which means that they play in different ways. When it comes to emergency vehicles Master C is obsessed. If something goes past us on the walk to school with a siren or flashing lights then ... read more
Peppa’s Alphaphonics Campervan
I'm pretty sure there isn't a child in the country that doesn't recognise Peppa Pig. Heck, my two seemed to know who she was before they'd even watched the programme on the television. No idea how, but that's the power of Peppa. We've had a few Peppa Pig related toys over the years and they've always been fondly played with by both children. What we've not tried before is linking Peppa in to a bit of learning, but that is what we were encouraged to do in reviewing Peppa's Alphaphonics Campervan - and what a mouthful of a name that is. Peppa's Alphaphonics Campervan is designed to help ... read more
Review: Ravensburger’s My First Clock
It's not just Master C that I've been trying to do educational stuff with this summer. Little Miss C hasn't escaped my attempts to be a good parent, so I've had her helping me to review Ravensburger's My First Clock which also comes from their Play & Learn range. The game consists of a clock with movable hands and 27 clock cards. Each off these shows a time on an analogue clock on one side and then on the reverse there is the same time shown on a digital clock. Now, what I find a tad strange about this is that the digital side shows the time twice, one for morning and once for ... read more
Review: Ravensburger’s Ready, Set, Count!
Master C starts the pre-school year at the local infant school today. Today! How on earth has that happened? It's hard to believe that it was three years ago that Little Miss C was in that same position. There are so many differences between my two kids and if I'm honest quite a few differences between they way that they've been brought up. After all LMC was an only child for the first two and a bit years of her life, yet Master C has always had to fight for attention against his older sister - I just wish he didn't do that quite so literally at times! It's also fair to say that as LMC was ... read more
Meeting Num Noms at Bella Italia
My kids really love nothing more than coming on one of Mummy's work trip - mainly because they usually seem to involve food and getting to play with toys! I often wonder how they describe what I do to their friends and what sort of a warped version of events their teachers get. Thing is that the recent Num Noms Party at Bella Italia involved lots of food, activities and the biggest pile of Num Noms you have ever seen. Now I'll be honest and say that Num Noms had completely passed me by until now, but Little Miss C is no where near as ignorant as I am and instantly started jumping up and ... read more
