When you love movies, TV, books, games, music and anything else you can count within the realm of nerdiness, there can be a lot to keep up with. There are always new releases to pay attention to and people telling you what you should be playing, watching, reading, or listening to. Keeping up with some things, like your favorite podcast, might not be that difficult, but it can be hard not to get left behind when there's so much going on. When life gets busy, it can be even worse because you feel like you don't have time to enjoy the things you love. You can use different methods to keep up ... read more
5… 4… 3… 2… 1… Thunderbirds are go! #ThunderbirdsDay
I'll let you into a little secret. My real first name isn't actually Penny. If you look in my passport you'll find that I'm actually a Penelope. Not the most common of names, but one that has a few famous owners. One of the most notable of which being Lady Penelope from Thunderbirds. Back at junior school the playground taunts were usually around being called Lady Penelope and other children teasing a boy in my class with the surname Parker about whether or not he was my chauffeur. I'd never really seen Thunderbirds at the time so had absolutely no idea what they were on about. Fast ... read more
Kate & Mim-Mim: Kate in Oz
The kids are becoming rather too used to preview screenings of films and I'm pretty sure they think that all cinemas have face painters permanently in the lobby and goodie bags when you leave. I fear they may be disappointed next time we take them to our local cinema to see something. Last Saturday was a bit different though as rather than a film, this time we were the guests of Fremantle Media to see a preview of a special edition of Kate and Mim-Mim which is due to air on CBeebies on the 19th October. Kate in Oz sees Kate and Mim-Mim swapping Mimiloo for the land of Oz in this special ... read more
Win a Nickelodeon Store Goodie Bag
It's nearly a month now since I got a sneak preview of the new Nickelodeon Store in London's Leicester Square and I'm delighted to see that other people I know have now been along and are loving the place as much as Little Miss C and I did. You may also have seen me reveal what was in the goodie bag that I brought home from there too. And now I'm delighted to tell you that I have a goodie bag to give away to one lucky Being Mrs C reader. In addition to the goodies you can see pictured below there is also a £20 voucher to use in store. This competition is open to all readers ... read more
A sneak peak at the new Nickelodeon Store London #NickStore
Being a blogger has brought both me and the kids some amazing opportunities - things that money really can't buy - and today was one of those days. Imagine being a child and going in to a shop full of things with all your favourite TV characters on them. Imagine that happening when the shop is closed to members of the public and you're there as special guests. I'm sure you can imagine just how excited Little Miss C was therefore this morning when exactly this happened at the new Nickelodeon Store in London's Leicester Square. The Nickelodeon Store opens to the public tomorrow ... read more
Featured Post: Multitasking your viewing?
When I got in from BritMumsLive! on Saturday night I was pretty much ready to flop on the sofa and collapse in front of something mind-numbing on TV. As luck would have it the BBC were showing I Love 1996, and I'm a complete sucker for this type programme. Lots of talking heads and opportunities to say "I remember that!" 1996 holds a special place in my heart though. It was the year I did my A-levels and left school. The year I moved into my first flat and the year I started my first job. A pretty memorable year. In addition to what was going on in my life there was also the matter of a ... read more
Telly when you want it with YouView
How much TV do you watch? And how much of that is what is actually being broadcast at the time? I know that in our household the answer I'd give to those questions are very different to if I'd been asked them a couple of years ago. It's rare that Mr C and I watch a TV programme live - only on the rare occassion that there's something specific that we want to watch and it happens to be on at the time we want to sit down and watch it. Most of the time we use one of the many TV catch up services - iPlayer, ITV Player, 4OD etc. The Internet has really changed my viewing habits, ... read more
Review: Everything’s Rosie – Now You See Me, Now You Don’t
Little Miss C is a HUGE Everything's Rosie fan here and she was absolutely delighted when we were asked to review the latest DVD - Everything's Rosie: Now You See Me, Now You Don't. This DVD of Series 2 features 13 episodes in total giving it a total running time of nearly two and a half hours. Rosie lives in a very brightly coloured playhouse with her best friend Raggles the rabbit. In a twist that my daughter loves the playhouse is up a tree and has a large helter skelter like slide to take Rosie down to ground level. I think Little Miss C might be a bit more ... read more
Thrifty Mrs C – Kirstie’s Fill Your House for Free
There's been a bit of a shortage of Thrifty Mrs C posts of late. Not because I haven't been thrifty. Oh no. More a lack of time to write about being thrifty. I've also been getting the feeling that my Thrifty Friday Five just wasn't working - some weeks I had something I wanted to write about, but as I could only think of four points I didn't. Or there were other subjects where I had so much to say that I couldn't distill it down to just five points. So, I'm moving on and instead I'm just going to aim for a Thrifty Friday post instead. So, what to write about ... read more
A spot of Telly Nostalgia
Just in case it's passed you by I feel it my moral duty to inform you of an amazing event that's going on this weekend. It's 30 years since those people at ITV started doing kids programmes - Children's ITV as it was known, CITV in modern speak - and to celebrate they're turning the CITV channel (that one you watch sometimes when you overshoot CBeebies on the remote) over to some of the best shows from the last 30 years. A quick look at the schedules (in this Radio Times article) shows some great memories from my childhood as well as plenty of others I'd forgotten. ... read more
