Book memories

18/11/2010

It's funny how some things from childhood can evoke such memories when you see them again years later. Mr C visited his parents with LMC over the weekend and came home with four books that had belonged to him and his brothers when they were all small. The three Janet and Allan Ahlberg books (Peepo!, Each Peach Pear Plum and Cops and Robbers ) are ones that I don't remember (that doesn't necessarily mean I didn't read them!) but they instantly reminded me of one of my favourite books from that time: Funnybones. The Tiger Who Came to Tea is yet another children's book that ... read more

Life

21/10/2010

As some of you know, this blog's had to take a bit of a backseat lately due to family illness. Many thanks to those of you that have been in touch and the support you've been giving me recently. It really is appreciated. Life in the C household has not slowed down though and one of the biggest developments over the last couple of weeks is that Little Miss C's appetite has become so great that we've moved on from just milk and she's enjoying her first solid food. Baby rice, baby porridge and pureed carrot are the extent of her menu so far, but so hungry is she that she had ... read more

Get knotted hat

28/09/2010

You may remember that back in August I knitted a first hat for Baby C. A second quickly followed, this time in a plain colour, just in case Baby C was not a stripe lover. Little Miss C has not (yet) expressed a preference in the stripes vs plain debate, but it just happened that the plain one was in my bag the other day when I noticed how there was that slight chill in the air and thought that I ought to wrap her up warm while we were out and about.  I know I'm biased, but she really does just look good enough to eat! ... read more

Crafting for baby

27/09/2010

Real progress has been made here now that I've got a little bit of "me" time again.  The Ten in the Bed cross-stitch that I started back at the beginning of February (nearly eight months ago!) is finally finished. Well, I say finished, the sewing part is finished. I still need to wash it, mount it and frame it though before it can be hung on the wall in Little Miss C's nursery. I just hope that it won't be another eight months before this happens!  This is the view that I have most evenings now that the sewing is complete. There's still a long ... read more

Wimpole Hall Farm

16/09/2010

Grandpa's birthday gave LMC and I an excuse for a day out today, so we met my parents at the National Trust's Wimpole Estate up in Cambridgeshire. The weather was kind to us, despite the very threatening clouds, and we were able to have quite a long wander around with her buggy. The gardens at the hall were looking fabulous at the moment and the team of gardeners were certainly doing a fantastic job. The walled garden was also looking spectacular and their display of squashes was great. Lots of lovely autumn colours and combined with the slight chill in the air it made me realise ... read more

Time…

25/08/2010

It's strange, but after 11 weeks of having a small person to look after when I suddenly get a few hours to myself I'm not sure what to do. LMC is currently asleep and there are so many possibilities that I almost feel spoilt for choice. Problem is that I have no idea how long I have. Long enough for a chapter of my book? A few rows or knitting? Some sewing? Time to empty the dishwasher? Until the end of a programme on TV?Sometimes you just need to seize what ever time you have and just get on with something. Impulsiveness can be a good thing! ... read more

Getting back to “normal”

05/08/2010

Little Miss C is eight weeks old today. Eight weeks! Where has the time gone. From a small baby who came into the house and did little more than sleep, eat and fill her nappy, I am instead looking down at a bigger baby playing on her play mat, making noises, hitting the toys hung above her and occasionally breaking into a smile too. The transformation has been amazing and it seems that every day there is some small change that we can marvel over. Now that we're both getting used to each other we're learning to live with each other pretty well. I'm incredibly lucky as she's not a ... read more

Tired and weary…

27/07/2010

It's amazing how tired and weary you can feel after a day in which I struggle to list what I have actually achieved. This is so different though to the tiredness that I used to feel after a day at work. More emotionally and physically draining, but at the same time satisfying. At the end of it all Little Miss C smiles and suddenly the screaming and tears, dirty nappies, endless feeding and hours pushing the pram are forgotten. The aching weariness is a bit harder to shift though... ... read more

Thank you Rattling On!

14/07/2010

I'm often amazed at the kindness of fellow bloggers and once again I'm feeling that way today too!My MIL came to visit at lunch time with a package for Little Miss C from the lovely Dawn over at Rattling On. The absolute darling that she is has knitted this adorable cardigan for Little Miss C. The colour is perfect (as her daughter says very "this year") and I'm in love with the buttons and desperate to know where she got them from. As you can see it goes perfectly with LMC's outfit this afternoon (a gift from her Auntie) and she was very happy to ... read more

Life with Little Miss C

05/07/2010

This adorable little lady seems to take up most of my time at the moment, but I'm certainly not complaining about that! It is funny though how whole days can just vanish now without me realising it. Still I'm amazed already when looking back at photos of when she was born as to how much she has changed in just three and a half weeks. Making the most of her therefore is my priority so again please forgive me if the blog takes a bit of a back seat. ... read more
