Little Miss C is eight weeks old today. Eight weeks! Where has the time gone. From a small baby who came into the house and did little more than sleep, eat and fill her nappy, I am instead looking down at a bigger baby playing on her play mat, making noises, hitting the toys hung above her and occasionally breaking into a smile too. The transformation has been amazing and it seems that every day there is some small change that we can marvel over.
Now that we're both getting used to each other we're learning to live with each other pretty well. I'm incredibly lucky as she's not a baby that needs to be held all the time or anything like that. She'd quite happy to play on her own as long as she knows I'm nearby. But then she's equally happy to allow Mr C or I to play with her and we're rewarded with some lovely big grins. She's also sleeping well and we're lucky enough to have already had some nights where she's managed a straight eight hours without needing a feed!
This does mean that she's now allowing me to go back to my old life a little bit and day by day I'm finding time to start doing things I love and used to do before she arrived. In the last week I've managed to start reading my first non-baby book since her arrival. I've also picked up my knitting needles again and LMC may actually have her baby blanket by the winter (although there's still a long way to go!) The disappearance of the carpel tunnel syndrome also means that the Ten in the Bed nursery cross stitch is also nearing completion. All the white background is complete and I'm now tackling the never ending outlining in black. Again, it may not be speedy progress, but at least it is progress. Outside we've been getting quite a few small harvests from our veg plot and this week I've started planing some new things – starting with another batch of mixed salad. We really enjoyed the first batch so fingers crossed that this one is as successful.
My NCT group also have weekly get togethers round at someone's house for tea and cake – it's amazing how much tea and cake a breast-feeding woman can consume – and I've been using this as motivation to bake at least once a week. I'm sticking with some familiar recipes at the moment to make things easy - Matilda Cake and Chocolate Brownies are both featuring quite regularly – but I'm hoping that soon I can go back to trying out some new ones.
Fingers crossed that this progress all means that this blog can come back into being. When I started it over two years ago I had no idea as to what my life would be like now, but bearing in mind that this blog was always to cover "things that make me smile" Little Miss C will still continue to be featured quite regularly, but I'm not aiming to turn it into a pure "mummy blog". It will continue to be about Being Mrs C and all that that entails. This journey's getting a whole lot more exciting so I hope you'll stick with me for it!
