The moral of the story…

19/01/2010

... is that if the knitting looks wrong and far too small then it probably is! Having started work on bootee number two it became quite obvious as to why my first attempt had turned out so small - I'd missed out part of the pattern. I blame pregnancy brain loss! Much more pleased with version two, and there's even enough yarn left to make a second one the same size.  ... read more

First knitted bootee

11/01/2010

It's taken a little while, but I've finally finished my first knitted creation for Baby C - a little bootee (yes I know they normally come in pairs, but I've just not got that far yet!)Knit in baby alpaca (buttermilk and duck egg) in the newborn size following a pattern from UK alpaca that I bought at the Knitting and Stitching show last year (the day after I found out about Baby C in fact). Having completed one I have to say two things: 1) Mine doesn't seem to resemble that in their pictures too much; and 2) it was a real pain to knit! Lots of ... read more

Technical socks

07/01/2010

Please don't think that I spend all my time at home with my feet up (despite what Mr C may say). I did have to sit back and admire this new pair of socks though. The yarn is Regia silk color in shade 0189 (nairobi color). Lovely to knit with and the socks themselves certainly have a silky feel to them when on my feet.I've spent the majority of today sat in front of my sewing machine, but sadly without much sewing going on. Sewing through a pin is never a good thing. It's even worse though when doing so somehow causes bobbin case and needle plate become misaligned so ... read more

Final Christmas preparations in the home

19/12/2009

It's been a busy Saturday with lots of things on the pre-CHristmas to do list ticked off. All the shopping is now complete, although a fair amount more time is required with the wrapping paper and sellotape before all that is complete. There are a few handmade gifts that are not quite finished yet though. I'm not panicking yet though as there should still be plenty of time to ensure that they're all done in plenty of time - remind me of that late next Thursday though! With freezing temperatures, yesterday's snow still lying deep outside, and more forecast our attentions ... read more

Crafting books

23/11/2009

Things are finally getting a bit more organised following our move and it felt great to today get all my craft books in one place on some new (to me) shelves in my study. Over the last few years I've been picking up various books either when I've seen them in sales, or in charity or secondhand book shops. Getting them altogether made me realise what a collection I've been building up covering knitting, crochet, embroidery, dress making and patchwork. Although new books are always lovely and very inspirational, there's something about finding ones secondhand that give me a real ... read more

Growing slowly

29/10/2009

It's taking time (and I do have a small blister on my finger!) but the socks are growing. Just in time for the cold weather which is likely to return very soon. Now on to the difficult bit... ... read more

Time without a laptop

24/10/2009

For a variety of reasons I've had some time without my laptop this week. I'm not at all sure as to whether or not it was a good thing though. I missed being able to look things up when I wanted to know them. I missed popping in to read other people's blogs and get that insight into their lives. I missed chatting with friends in forums as well. On the flip side though I did get so much more time to do other things. For the first time since we moved here I got to knit properly for long periods of time. The amount of reading I did also went through the roof.Possibly I just need to be ... read more

Missing mojo

05/10/2009

Since we moved house I seem to have lost all sewing and knitting mojo. I'm not really sure why as I keep wanting to do things, but have just not been motivated to do so for the last couple of months. I'm hoping that this is going to change as I am missing not having something on the go. A trip round the shops on Saturday resulted in one purchase that may help and to make things even better a parcel waiting on the doorstep upon my return.   In the last couple of years I haven't actually made myself anything to wear on my sewing machine. Plenty of bags and household items, but ... read more

V&A Knitting for Victory

28/09/2009

I always look forward to receiving e-mails from the London Stitch and Bitch group. They're normally funny and have useful likes in to various knitting resources or other knitting related things that are going on in and around London. Today's e-mail was very much the same and one particular thing caught my attention. When I initially read the title V&A Knitting for Victory it sounded like the sort of thing that would be right up my street. Something that combines knitting with my interest for all things war-time. I clicked through and was even more excited to see that it was a ... read more
