It's been a busy Saturday with lots of things on the pre-CHristmas to do list ticked off. All the shopping is now complete, although a fair amount more time is required with the wrapping paper and sellotape before all that is complete. There are a few handmade gifts that are not quite finished yet though. I'm not panicking yet though as there should still be plenty of time to ensure that they're all done in plenty of time – remind me of that late next Thursday though!
With freezing temperatures, yesterday's snow still lying deep outside, and more forecast our attentions have turned to trying to keep the house as warm as possible. The problem with a 1930s semi is that there's not much built in insulation and the previous owners don't seem to have made any many any additions in that way either. I'm leaving the attic to Mr C and he seems to have some grand plans for up there. My attention has gone to trying to keep our bedroom warm. When we moved in we were left with just a curtain pole on the wall and as it was the middle of summer we just bought the first curtains we could get our hands on – some cheap thin ones from Sainsburys. These were fine for the summer, but now that the cold is really here it's become obvious that we need to do a little more in there.
I've therefore been trying to add interlining to the existing curtains to make them thicker. Normally this would go between the main material and the lining, however this isn't so simple when the curtains and linings are already sewn together. I'm going for the simple solution of just stitching the interlining to the reverse of everything, but even still it's not all that simple, especially when the interlining stretches as you're feeding it through the sewing machine. Only one is complete so far, and it may not look pretty, but it does certainly look warmer!
