Winter Is Coming So Create a Healthy and Clean Environment at Home

06/11/2017

Winter is nearly here! Now we’re in November, even though we are only a few days in, it has seen quite a stark temperature contrast and everyone has been cracking out the hats and gloves. But before things get too cold, and you’ve got all things festive on the brain, then it is a good time to get your home sorted for winter. Germs are in abundance at this time of year. So having a healthy and clean home to be in can help you to start things off right. Forget about spring cleaning; it is all about having a winter clean! Here are some of the things you should be focusing on.

Focus on Your Bed

I’m sure you clean and change your bedding regularly anyway. But having clean bedding is a must over the winter season, as it is where any bugs or germs you’ve caught can spread and come to life, so to speak. So wash your sheets today if you can’t remember the last time that you did so. You can even vacuum your mattress to get rid of dust and mites; when was the last time that you did that? Swapping out your bedding for some warmer alternatives is a great idea too. An extra throw or blanket, as well as a warmer tog duvet can do the world of good when it is winter.

Clean Your Gutters

Leaves have been falling and no doubt, are strewn all over your home, garden, and driveway. But what can happen over winter, is that it can rain, and then the rain freezes and blocks things like the guttering around your house. This can crack the guttering causing damage, as well as cause leaks because of blockages. And in winter, you don’t want any excess water in the home as it can cause damage and mould. So clear leaves and especially clear your gutters.

Clean Carpets

If you have carpet at home then they might be looking fine, in terms of the colour that they are. But if they haven’t been cleaned in a long time, then they could be harboring a lot of germs and dirt. Not good when the home is generally going to be a temperature that germs thrive on. So if you’ve not had your carpets cleaned in the last six months, then it is time to do so. Not only would it get dirt up and leave your carpets looking better, but many companies like Central Home Services, also offer sanitising as part of the service. With young children around, it is always a good idea to have truly clean carpets.

Check Your Heating or Fireplace

No doubt you will have had your heating on these past few weeks, and will have a pretty good idea if things are working well or not. But if you have a fireplace or a wood burner, then have you had it cleaned and checked that all is working well? If not, it could be toxic for your family home.
