Eleanor’s Eyebrows – Timothy Knapman and Davis Tazzyman

06/07/2013

When it comes to subjects for children's books I've seen some slightly strange ones, but this is the first book I've ever come across where the main characters are a pair of eyebrow, but in Eleanor's Eyebrows that's exactly what you've got. Eleanor's never been too sure what her eyebrows are for and as a result they're left feeling a bit unloved. One night whilst Eleanor sleeps her eyebrows go off on an adventure of their own visiting the zoo, working for a magician and being false legs for an ant who wanted to be a spider. When Eleanor gets up the ... read more

That first tooth

04/07/2013

As any parents knows teething can be hellish. Watching your little baby scream in pain not understanding what is going on is torture.  We had it lucky with Little Miss C as her first teeth didn't cause much pain other than the couple of hours before they actually popped through the gum. With Master C it seems to have been a different story, with months and months of build up before that first tooth came through just a couple of weeks ago. As an aside - according to my dentist boys are often much later than girls in getting their first teeth too, which is maybe why it feels like it ... read more

Introducing Thrifty Mrs C

20/05/2013

25 May 2008. Not exactly a memorable date, but that was when I first started blogging here at Being Mrs C. Amazing to think that it was five years ago. So much has happened in my life in that time, but the things that drove me to start blogging then still drive me to blog today. One of the things that I was particularly keen to capture with this blog was my efforts to spend more time crafting and also to try to rediscover some of the crafts and skills of my grandparents generation. The make do and mend culture of the war years is one that fascinates me and in these austere times I believe that ... read more

Featured post: Dressing the kids

24/04/2013

I feel I should start this post with a caveat. Possibly quite a large caveat. My fashion sense isn't exactly always what I think those in the know call "on trend". When it comes to dressing the kids though it all seems so much easier. Maybe it's because you look at the kids all day that you can tell what suits them and what doesn't, whereas I hardly ever see myself in a full length mirror. Something I realised quite soon after Master C was born is that I now needed to familiarise myself with boys clothes as well as girls and what has surprised me is just how ... read more

Featured Post: Money for old clothes?

24/04/2013

I've written before on here about the disaster zone that is our spare bedroom at the moment. One of the biggest problems in there is the huge amount of clothing that we've all grown out of in the last couple of years. Not only do the kids grow up, but after two children in less than three years I've also changed size (and shape!) several times. With no more children planned it's time to tackle the clothes mountain once and for all. There are several options as to what to do with all these things we no longer wear. Many of the children's clothes will be passed on to friends ... read more

Go wild with Next at London Zoo

10/04/2013

I've got a confession to make. One which might affect Little Miss C's political aspirations unless I declare it now. About a year ago she tried to shoplift a pair of shoes from our local branch of Next. There we were looking for a new pair of pumps for summer when I suddenly realised that she was no longer at my side. I had that panicky feeling in the pit of my stomach as I abandoned my quest for pumps and instead started shouting her name and running around the shop like a mad woman.  As I happened upon the area full of seats for people to try on shoes I found a very ... read more

Sponsored Post: Planning a space for Master C

04/04/2013

Disclaimer: This is a sponsored post. When we bought this house three and a half years ago there were just two of us and we couldn't quite believe that we had so much space. Our furniture didn't really fill the space that we had. Fast forward to today and there are now four of us living here and we've already extended up into the loft to give us a new master bedroom. Little Miss C has outgrown and moved out of the box room that the estate agent sold to us as a nursery and Master C is currently in there. At six months old he's already starting to need a bit more space. The room ... read more

Remembering Matilda Mae

08/02/2013

The parent blogging world has been rocked this week by the tragic and sudden loss of Matilda Mae. No family should have to go through what her parents, brother and sister are at the moment and I know I'm not alone in hugging my children just that little bit tighter after hearing the news. Matilda's Mum Jennie is finding great support from the amazing parent blogger community and from the hundreds of people who have been tweeting her and leaving messages of support on her blog.  I can't imagine the pain that they are feeling right now, but I do know that the community will be ... read more

Ladybird Tuesday

11/01/2013

As Ladybird Tuesday gathers steam I thought it worthwhile trying to pull together an index of all the books that people are writing about and to separate them into series. I will try to update this as often as possible, but please remember that I can only include the posts I know about. All books listed without links are ones that I own but have not yet written about. Ones where someone else has written a review are also owned by me if they have a * next to their title. Series 401 Bunnikin's Picnic Party Ginger's Adventures Smoke and Fluff Lost at the Fair The Green Umbrella Bunny's First ... read more
