It’s probably weird to say here, but summer can make staying at home feel a bit unfair. Like, in theory, it should be lovely. After all, there are longer days, lighter evenings, doors open, maybe eating outside if the weather is decent enough for once. But in reality, the house feels too hot, everyone’s bored, the garden furniture is uncomfortable, and somehow going out for “just a little treat” turns into spending too much money on drinks, snacks, parking, and something nobody actually needed. Sure, you should try to make the most out of hot weather, but that’s expensive too, though.
And yeah, staying out of the house all summer sounds nice, but as you know here, it’s expensive, it’s tiring, and not every day can be a full activity day. So really, the better move is making home feel like somewhere you’d actually choose to be, not somewhere you’re stuck because going out again sounds like too much.
Is it Too Hot in the House?
Well, this has to come first because nobody is enjoying their home if every room feels stuffy by lunchtime, or else it’s been stuffy 24/7, and you’re dealign with that gross, sticky, sweaty feeling. It’s the worst. You can have the nicest sofa, the prettiest curtains, the sweet little side table, all of it, but if everyone’s sitting there sweating and irritated, then no, the room isn’t working.
You might already know this, but it helps to have some fans; it helps to have blackout curtains, reflected foil on the windows; and getting air conditioning installed especially helps (it’s an investment but worth it). But these are the biggest changes you can make so summer becomes more enjoyable.
Make the Garden Feel Like Somewhere to Sit
Well, one thing to understand here is that a garden doesn’t need to be massive to feel useful. If you have old outdoor furniture that’s not comfortable, sure, it’s going to help to just buy some new ones. But really, even a small outdoor living area can change things. You owe it to yourself here to have a proper seating set, an outdoor rug, a parasol, some cushions, and you deserve to have that nice comfy summer feeling.
Consider Getting a Pool
If there’s space and if you have the money for it, why not? You could invest in one of those permanent inground pools and even build a deck around it, or you could save some money and get something a little more temporary like an Intex pool. But both choices are pretty good. A lot of families spend money going to the beach, lake, going to a splash pad, public pool, waterpark, or even an amusement park for some fun. But if you’re really looking to save money, this can be the best way to go about it.
Keep the Summer Treats In
Sometimes the whole reason for leaving the house is just “I want something nice.” And sure, that’s fair enough here. But stocking up helps. Actually, that’s one of the only reasons why people want to go out, but if you want to save some money, just have them at home. Like ice cream and slushies are popular in the summer, so why not buy a slushy maker or ice cream maker? Why not have some lemonade, iced coffee supplies, or even ice lollies on hand? It’s just nice when staying in doesn’t feel like the dull option.
