Small Decor Fixes That Make a Big Difference (And Take Less Than 20 Minutes)

13/12/2025

Transforming your home doesn’t need to be something that takes a lot of money or a lot of time. Sometimes it requires just a small decor fix that can be done in less than twenty minutes!

If you’re looking to help bring some new life to your home but don’t want to spend too much time or money on those efforts, then here are a few suggestions to get you started.

  1. Declutter surfaces

Sometimes it’s not about adding anything to the space but removing it. Clutter can appear everywhere in your home, which is why it’s important to find those places that need a good tidying up.

This is something you can do quickly and as you move around the house doing other things. Clear off a busy bedside table or a cluttered living room space that needs a tidy up, and notice the visible difference it creates.

  1. Rearrange furniture

Another freebie that can be done and makes a big difference to your spaces to rearrange your furniture.

Giving your room a new flow by repositioning existing furniture can really make a difference that is often significantly impactful. Pulling the sofa a few inches from the wall or rearranging some of the bulkier furniture can help make the space feel less cramped.

Think about any furniture that you could remove to make it more minimalist in its appearance, too.

  1. Bring in some fresh greenery

Fresh greenery is definitely worth doing to help add some colour, but also to boost the mood within the home. Indoor plants help the household to reconnect with nature, and they can do well to lift the ambience of the room if plants are selected carefully and are appropriate for the room itself.

  1. Restyle shelves and surfaces

Restyling shelves and surfaces is a good way to create visual appeal without it feeling all cluttered and messy. Consider applying the ‘rule of three’. This is where you group items in odd numbers when displaying them around the room.

  1. Hang mirrors or artwork

Hanging up mirrors or artwork is another great addition that’s worth adding to the space, especially when it comes to helping bounce natural and artificial light around the room to make it feel bigger. Refreshing your wall art can also create more interest for yourself and for any guests who visit regularly.

In some cases, using spray adhesive on lightweight artwork can help create a flush finish on walls and other surfaces.

  1. Update hardware

Swapping out outdated light switch plates, cabinet handles for more modern finishes can make a small but impactful change to all rooms if done across the home. Some hardware can fall apart and wear over time, so replacing this is a small and affordable quick fix.

  1. Improve lighting

Finally, lighting should also be something you swap out when it comes to creating the right ambience in the space. Swapping out harsh white lightbulbs for warmer-toned options is a great way to help transform the space and mood. It also helps to make the space feel more welcoming.

These small decor fixes are quick to do and make a big difference to your home, so try some of them in your home.
