How to Maintain Privacy When Clearing an Overgrown Garden

Having an outside space to call your own is one of the biggest benefits of living in a house with a garden. Being able to step outside of your door and enjoy time spent in the fresh air is an excellent feeling. If you have kids, having a backyard of your own is the perfect way to get them outside, being active, and away from their screens. Whether you want a garden that your kids can play in, one that’s perfect for you to relax in, or one that does both, there are so many ways that your garden can be used. However, if your garden currently resembles a jungle, it can be hard to use it for anything at all.

Gardens can require a lot of maintenance. So, letting your gardening slide, even for a couple of months, can result in an overgrown space filled with tall grass, brambles, and a whole forest of weeds. When your garden gets to this stage, it can be hard to know how to even begin tackling it. This can become a vicious cycle where you put off tidying the garden, it becomes even more overgrown, and you become even more reluctant to sort it out. If you find yourself in this situation, calling in landscaping experts to tackle the work on your behalf is often the best course of action.

A professional landscaping service will be able to clear your garden efficiently. If you are hoping to retain the privacy that you have at the moment, it’s helpful to discuss this with the landscaping service, as they will have lots of ideas on how this can be achieved. Potential solutions include:

Introducing Fencing

If your garden is currently bordered by tall trees, your space can feel extremely exposed when you cut these down. So, instead, it’s helpful to speak to the landscaping company about two possible solutions. The first is to have the trees cut back and crowned to a more acceptable height and size. A smaller canopy should still provide privacy, but it does mean that you will need to repeat the process over the years.

Secondly, removing the trees and replacing them with fences is an ideal solution for added privacy. This also provides a low-maintenance, long-lasting way to keep your privacy and adds extra security to your garden.

Selecting Low Maintenance Hedges and Shrubs

Another alternative to add extra privacy to your garden is to select some low maintenance hedges and shrubs to create a border. Removing any existing overgrown hedges and introducing low maintenance varieties that you can look after easily is an excellent solution when creating boundaries around your property.

Adding Screening

One final option to consider when seeking privacy in your garden is to add some screening. When your garden has been overgrown, having a clutter free outside space is hugely appealing, but feeling exposed can be a problem. Adding screening is an excellent way to add privacy and keep your garden looking tidy and uncluttered.
