Lifestyle Changes Women Need to Make After Breast Augmentation

31/05/2022

As with other cosmetic procedures, breast augmentation is a personal decision that should be carefully thought through. Along with restoring your breast’s shape and enhancing your upper body, the process of breast augmentation can bring along trivial complications, which should be taken care of in the early stages.

If you have recently gone through a breast augmentation surgery, here are a few of the lifestyle changes that you must incorporate for quick healing, reduce the risk of complications and flaunt your figure with confidence.

Avoid Physically Demanding Chores

Women with breast augmentation should take complete rest for at least one week. During the first week, you’re likely to experience an achy feeling, pain, and discomfort, which you will control with over-the-counter medications. Experts of breast augmentation at Northside Plastic Surgery suggest that the patient can resume light everyday chores after a week of taking medications. If you have a physically demanding job, you should take at least three weeks off for quick recovery.

Protect Your Incisions from Direct Sunlight

To speed up the recovery process, it is advised to keep your incisions away from direct sunlight, as the sun rays can slow down the healing process. You should cover your incisions and not expose the affected areas to sunlight for at least six weeks.

Sleep in a Reclining Position

You also need to take care of your sleeping position after your surgery. Doctors advise patients to sleep in a reclining position. It means sleeping on your back with your upper body slightly elevated using a recliner or a stack of pillows. This will reduce the swelling and the frequency of swelling.

Avoid Wearing Underwire Bras for Few Months

As soon as you get your breast implants, you might eagerly want to fill up your wardrobe with new garments, but know that you won’t be able to wear underwire bras for a few months after your surgery. This is because underwire bras can be irritating and hurt the incisions. This is especially true for patients who have gone through inframammary incisions. Generally, it takes two to six months to wear underwire bras after breast augmentation.

Maintain Healthy Habits

While external factors, such as sunlight and clothes, can slow down the healing process, your dietary habits also have an impact on your breast recovery.

  •  Drinking plenty of water is crucial for your breasts’ faster recovery. Ideally, an individual should drink 64 ounces of water a day. And in case of breast augmentation, you should drink more water.
  • Quit Smoking. Smoking can have a dangerous impact on the growth of your breast recovery. Smoking exposes you to nicotine which could reduce the blood flow and can increase the risk of heart attack, blood clots, stroke, and tissue necrosis.
  • Stop drinking alcohol. Alcohol is a type of blood thinner that can increase complications for breast augmentation patients. You should not drink alcohol for at least a week.

Bottom Line

Breast augmentation surgery is a painful cosmetic procedure that requires time to heal. OTC medications and some lifestyle changes shall help in faster recovery. The mantra is to be patient during the entire process.
