Before You Start A New Exercise Regime Do These 4 Things

18/03/2022

Beginning a new exercise regime can be a very exciting experience. However, to ensure you stick at it over the long term and see the results you are looking for, there are some things you will need to have sorted out beforehand. Read on to find out what they are.

Get any foot injuries/issues under control

One of the most important things to get sorted out before you take up a new exercise activity are any foot injuries or issues. Sadly, far too many people think that they can train through foot problems or that the exercise they do will be enough to cure them. Of course, this isn’t the case and those that begin from a place of unwellness have a much smaller chance of succeeding and keeping up their new activity.

The good news is that it’s now easier than ever to get foot injuries and issues that may prevent you from exercising under control. All you have to do is search for the term chiropodist near me on Google. This will lead you to the closest foot care experts that will be able to help you with all sorts of issues from ankle pain to fungal nails.

Invest in the right kit

When starting a brand new exercise activity, there is no need to go all out and buy every single item of kit there is. You also don’t need to spend a fortune and buy top of the range equipment when you first start. However, no matter what the activity there will be some kit that you can’t do without. For example, if you are going to take up cycling you will need to buy, borrow or rent an appropriate bike. Similarly, if running is your aim, shoes that are both comfortable and supportive will be essential.

With this in mind, be sure to have your kit before you begin your first session. Otherwise, your performance and comfort and so your motivation to continue may suffer.

Set yourself a goal

Goals are so important when it comes to your exercise routine. Yet beware that goals centred only around aesthetics can do more harm than good. Instead, try and find a performance-based goal to help you have something to work on and stay motivated.

Schedule it into your calendar

Lastly, if you want to start and succeed at a new exercise regime you need to make sure you genuinely have the time and energy to set aside to complete it. Indeed, this is often where people fail because they have big ideas, but when push comes to shove they just don’t have the resources to succeed.

The great thing about scheduling your new exercise regime is that it doesn’t just remind you that you need to head to the gym or track at a certain time. It also makes you think about how practical your sessions will be. After all, there is no point in joining a running group that meets from 3-4 pm if you have to pick the kids up from school each day.
