Things To Do Before You Move Out

Moving into a new home can be pretty exciting. But moving outcomes with certain responsibilities. You need to be cautious before making such a decision. People tend to get overwhelmed while moving. From t-shirts to your dog’s medicine, you need to pack everything very carefully.

It is important to not lose focus. Keep a checklist handy. It would help ensure that you don’t forget important things before moving out. Here is a list of to-do-things for you to go through;

Recurring charges

Make a list of all the recurring charges billed on your credit card. Calling the companies to avoid disruption in services can be a good idea. You need to cancel every one of these services before moving out. There can be multiple recurring charges like a gym membership or any other subscription. Some charges require a 30-day notice, like your gym membership. So, it is advisable to not leave things at the last minute.

Your possessions

Your belongings are your most important possessions. This is one of the most challenging things you need to handle. This can be both physically and mentally draining for you.

Relocating every single thing can be quite a waste of time. First, find out which belongings will be useful and which to take along. Set aside the things that you don’t require anymore. Only take those things which you absolutely want. 

A moving calendar

Having a to-do list of things can be quite liberating. Set a time frame to complete every individual task. Divide the tasks into big and small. This will help you achieve more tasks in due time.

Prioritizing your tasks from important to difficult will help reduce our burden. Move along with a dedicated timeline. Sticking to your timeline will discipline you and get the work done easily.

A moving calendar will keep track of your activities, organize your time and help speed along the moving process. 

A moving date

You should carefully think about a moving date. Before thinking about it, you should consider some things. The school year, end of a lease agreement, starting a new job, among others. These can be some of the engagements which you need to keep in mind before setting a date.

Take into consideration the unfavourable weather conditions as well. Moving during the peak season can cost you considerably more. Keep in mind a date which suits you in all aspects. 

New locks

Safety is everyone’s paramount concern. Getting a new set of locks for the whole house should definitely be on the checklist. You can never be sure who holds a spare key, so it is advisable to change all the locks.

For the safety of your loved ones, changing the locks can prove to be a good idea. It also will give you a sense of satisfaction and safety.

Paper trail

Vacating an old house and entering a new one requires documentation. There is so much paper exchange involved when making certain transactions. While today most forms can be collected online, some of them need to be collected physically.

A no dues certificate will be one such form. It is advisable to attain all documentation while the process is still underway. If you forget important documents, coming back and forth would be very hectic. Before moving, you should take care of the paper trail and make sure to not leave anything behind.

Taking care for the one last time

Whether you own the house or not. It is your responsibility that the house you are moving out from should be in proper condition. If it was a rented place, it should be in the same condition as when you moved in, if not better. If you own the place and regardless of whether you will rent out or not, don’t leave it in a mess. 

Take care of the small wear and tear you notice in the house. Sometimes there is a case of hit and miss. You should thoroughly check the house from all angles before moving out.

Getting small repairs and damages fixed can be a very good idea. Things like leaking pipes or cracks in the walls can miss the broker’s eye. You should always be on the lookout before you move in. This will help you secure your house. You can then move out without any hassle.

Apart from this, make sure to clean the place properly. In fact, hire a move out cleaning services. This will make your life a little easier as you will already have a lot on your to-do list. The cleaning professionals will take care of deep cleaning the place. They will not create a hassle for you.   

The cleaning agency can also be called upon to clean specific areas as well. Such as kitchen, bathroom or sewerage. Do your research and hire an agency that will make your moving out a lot easier. 

Packing Your Belongings

Packing is a very crucial thing to do when you move. It can be a very time consuming and laborious thing. It requires attention to detail and precision. Make sure below mentioned things are followed carefully;

· Get appropriate packing material

· Start packing as soon as possible

· Make sure the packaging is solid

· Double tapping all your boxing is encouraged

· Provide lots of cushioning

· There should be no empty spaces inside the boxes

· Always pack the heavy material first

· Any breakable item should be packed with utmost care

· No unnecessary materials need to be packed

· Carefully label the boxes to avoid confusion later on

· Handling instructions should be firmly followed

Conclusion

Moving out can take away all your energy. But, if you do it efficiently, then it would be very easy to move swiftly through the process. Giving a final thorough cleaning to the house before moving can be a good idea.

Leaving your old house in excellent condition can be good for the future. It will make the house more attractive to potential buyers. Make sure you follow each point from the above checklist. Complete all the given tasks and move on with a free mind.
