Rightly said by someone that “a dog will educate regarding an unconditional love.”
With the above thought, many dog parents and dog lovers can relate. They are so adorable and always ready to show you love and affection that even if you don’t like dogs, you will fall in love with them. They have that power to teach you love and showcase how to show that love to others.
Now when you bring a puppy, you tend to pre-prepare so many things for him. Right? From dog bed, leash, bowl to dog treats, everything you manage to keep in his area. It’s a beautiful feeling to have someone you can cuddle and play with, but that’s not the only thing you are responsible for. You even need to train your dog about many things like signals when he wishes to go out for poop, what he will need to show when he is hungry. Not only this but manners regarding walking, and many other related habits. Just like a baby, you need to handle your puppy.
Here we are going to talk about loose-leash walking. In obedience training, the word “heel” means that the dog is walking on the left side while you hold the leash loosely. The good news here is that Puppy training is more casual with the goal of making your puppy walk politely on a loose leash without using your power to pull. There are many preferred words when they train their dogs, particularly for this, like “forward,” “Let’s Go” instead of “Heel.”
Let’s jump directly on the points that we need to consider when training the dog:
Comfortable wear
The first and foremost thing to check is whether your dog is comfortable wearing a leash. When they do not feel comfortable, some puppies tend to bite the leash. In this case, you can make your puppy busy by giving bully sticks for dogs from bully bunches and then try to put the leash on. It will become easy to do it when they are concentrating on some other activity.
Offer several treats
Next, you need to offer your puppy treats in a row for sitting or standing next to your leg. Make sure the leash is in a loose loop. This will encourage your puppy to perform and learn the activities you want him to know.
Give reward
When he starts running in front of you, simply try to turn in the contrary direction and call his name. If he reacts and turns with you calmly and starts walking, make sure you give him a treat. Puppies will know that obeying you will let them have a treat. This way, in the beginning, it becomes easy to train a puppy.
Allow plenty of time.
When you take him for a walk and give him the leash training, allow your puppy to explore during the walk. Let him sniff and smell the garden or the roadside flowers on your walk. When you see that he has enjoyed and done with the sniffing part, then give him a cue “Let’s Go!” in a very enthusiastic and happy voice. He will feel excited and will start walking with you happily.
Wrapping up
It’s not hard to train a dog; you just need to start it at an early stage. Follow some tips that can help you in the process, and you will be happy to have them around you.
