Where To Start When You Design A New Kitchen

23/11/2017

If you love to cook, then the kitchen is probably the most important room in your house. This is the place where you concoct wonderful meals, entertain friends, and enjoy quality time with the kids. So when it’s time to renovate, you probably already have lots of great ideas for your new kitchen. The trouble is, it’s difficult to know where to start when you have to come up with a brand new layout and design:

Worktop Space

The first thing you might consider is freeing up some of that worktop. If you’re buying beautiful wood or granite, you want it to be seen! Hobs, sinks, drainers, and small appliances can easily take up all of that important preparation space that we all need. Plumbing for sinks and dishwashers can be moved quite easily. Even the hob can be placed elsewhere. Prioritise your prep, and you’re halfway toward a brilliant new kitchen design. Don’t forget – you don’t have to fill up three sides of the room. Two sides and a breakfast table might be enough.

Oven

The oven probably can’t be moved, especially if it’s gas. Usually, these are built in, so it makes sense to keep it where it is at the moment. That doesn’t mean you can’t upgrade the units in that stack. You might want a separate grill and even a built-in microwave to free up that worktop space. Make sure you have plenty of space to open the oven. Never place cookers above your working height.

Hob

Most hobs need a good extractor fan. The hob might be moveable, but the extractor fan could vent to the outside. If this is the case, it can’t be moved without some serious building work. This fixes your hob in its current position unless you opt for a different type of extraction. There are a few different choices for hobs these days. Of course, the most popular are electric and gas burners. If you choose gas, check out websites like http://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/gas_safety.htm regarding the regulations to consider.

Everything Including The Kitchen Sink

Sinks can be moved around the room fairly easily because all the plumbing and pipework is hidden behind the kitchen cupboards. When you have a look at specialist websites like https://kitchensync.co.uk you can see that most sinks come with a half sink for draining. If you don’t choose a granite worktop, you’ll need a sink with a drainer to avoid pools of water.

Taps

Choosing taps these days isn’t easy because there are so many choices. You can have pull-hose or extendable taps for cleaning stubborn burnt-on bits. You might choose a filtered boiling water tap so you can free up your worktop space and ditch the kettle. Taps vary in cost a great deal so your budget might determine which way you go. Still, it’s nice to choose something contemporary and chic to go with your brand new kitchen.

And The Rest Of It?

Now all you need to decide is the colour of the worktops, tiles, walls and flooring! The layout is designed, and you’ve picked your appliances. Are you ready to cook your first meal in your dream kitchen?
