As a freelancer working from home one of the most important things in my old house was having a bit of office space. Somewhere where I could sit and work and then when I’d finished close up my laptop, walk away, and get on with the rest of my life. Since moving I’ve simply not had the space to do that, and I’ve noticed the detrimental effect that it’s had on my work and also on my work-life balance.
Working on the sofa or the kitchen table is fine, but it’s far from ideal. The faff of having to pack everything away anytime that someone else needs the table or wants to sit on the sofa and watch television is getting quite wearing. It also means that I’m working and trying to relax in the same space. There’s no physical divide between my home and work lives and if I’m honest my head is struggling with that a bit.
I was therefore thrilled when Kit Out My Office got in touch and said that they’d like to send me a desk to review. The desk they sent was the UCLIC Create Desk and Drawer and I was given a choice of 15 different drawer front colours at the point of ordering. I decided to go for the sunshine yellow colour to brighten things up and that comes with a white desk surface. The desk is available in two different widths (800mm and 1200mm) and I was sent the smaller of the two.
The UCLIC Create Desk and Drawer comes flat packed and was delivered in a total of 4 different packages. Once inside it is relatively easy to put together, with all the holes and everything you need already in place. The only thing that B had to watch out for is that you need to put the drawer in place quite early on, or else you end up having to go back a few steps. I think he may have been speaking from experience so make sure you read the instructions before starting the assembly.
Should you struggle though Kit Out My Office have also put together a helpful little video showing you what you need to do to assemble the UCLIC Create Desk.
The completed desk is exactly what I need to work on at home. It’s sturdy and, even with the smaller size, has enough space on the top to have my laptop, a desk light and still spread my notebook and various bits of paper around too. The drawer goes back the whole depth of the desk, meaning that you can actually fit quite a lot in there. Again, perfect if you have tonnes of stationery to hoard away like I do!
I really liked the bright colour options for the drawer front as I think they can really brighten up what is quite a utilitarian piece of furniture. I therefore think it would work really well in a teenagers bedroom and provide them with somewhere to study that is far better than just sitting on their bed, as I know many teenagers tend to do.
Kit Out My Office is the online arm of office furniture manufacturer Bluespot Furniture, so they know a thing or two about office furniture, having been making and selling it for over 15 years. They’re also from Yorkshire, which means they’re utterly fabulous too, as all the best people come from Yorkshire. That’s just a fact!
This Yorkshire lass can now sit down and work in comfort again thanks to Kit Out My Office, and I’ll definitely be looking in their direction when we next move house and I look to fit out a proper home office space for me.
Disclaimer: I was sent the UCLIC Create Desk and Drawer by Kit Out My Office for the purposes of this review. All opinions remain my own.
Like the desk. Ideal for you, where have you put it? X
In a tiny corner of the kids’ room for now.
