I briefly mentioned our latest family camping trip in a recent review post on here (the Discovery Kids Digital Walkie Talkies, if you’re interested), but it is a trip that deserves more than one blog post if I’m honest. We’d been meaning to return to Norfolk for ages, and were determined that this time we’d be taking our tent with us. Our last trip to the area was a last minute stay in a holiday cottage and we’d loved the area so much that we were keen to return. Wells-Next-The-Sea is a lovely little place and we wanted to go back and spend more time there so we set out to look for a campsite locally. The one that a friend recommended only has static caravans on it now so I decided to just try my luck on Google to find an alternative and I’m delighted to say it came up trumps with Blue Skies Campsite.
Blue Skies Campsite came very highly recommended on Trip Advisor and the location looked perfect for what we wanted, so after establishing that they had shower and toilet facilities on site (I do have some standards when family camping!) I went ahead and booked us in for three nights. They seemed lovely and friendly on the phone which is always a good starting point for things like this. There’s something about booking campsites which can be a slightly nerve-wracking experience. You’re never sure exactly what you’re going to get, so first impressions really count.
Blue Skies Camping has been open for business for just over a year now and it’s quite simply a lovely little campsite. Small but perfectly formed. The site is located just on the outskirts of Wells, right next door to the Wells and Walsingham Light Railway (much to Master C’s delight), and in just ten minutes you can easily walk to the local Co-op Supermarket in the town.
They welcome tents and caravans on site and these are centred around a small roped off area of grass and a basic children’s play area. Near the shop and reception building there is also a communal BBQ area with picnic tables. There are onsite showers and toilet blocks – all of which were kept impeccably clean during our stay. If anything the only minor complaint we had was that the showers on the first day were too hot (not a problem I’ve ever had on a campsite before!) and that was rectified by day two. Another top tip – is that the whole site has excellent movie phone reception – which, as someone pointed out to me, is due to the phone mast in the next field!
The other thing that I loved about the site was how child friendly it was. Several families were camping there over the bank holiday weekend and with it being a small site it was possible to let the kids roam free and still be able to roughly see where they were from our tent. They loved the freedom that they had that weekend and Little Miss C was very sad to leave at the end of the weekend.
If you’re wanting to explore north Norfolk then Blue Skies Campsite is perfectly located for you to do so. It’s a lovely, friendly little campsite, with owners that seem to really care about the people staying on the site and want to do everything possible to make their stay an enjoyable one. Its small size makes it perfect for families who want to be able to give their kids a bit of freedom on the site whilst the grownups relax. Well, relax as much as you an on a camping holiday with kids!
