Laser Hair Removal is one of those treatments that I think a fair few people initially shy away from because they’ve heard stories, often secondhand, about how much it can hurt. I certainly know that for me it was the main reason I never really investigated it further as a hair removal option. As a busy, dark-haired, mum of two I decided to reconsider my options and set up an appointment for an initial consultation for laser hair removal with Piper at HlA Studio and I’m so pleased I did. The whole experience, and Piper herself, put me completely at ease and gave me full confidence in HlA Studio as somewhere to go for this treatment.
Firstly, laser hair removal technology has moved on substantially in recent years and HlA Studio use state-of-the-art technology in the form of the award-winning Soprano ICE Treatment System. Piper spent the first part of my consultation talking through how the technology worked and what level of sensation you would expect to experience during the procedure.
During that initial consultation Piper also spoke at length, and answered my many questions, about when laser hair removal is right for people, based on their hair growth, hair colour and skin tone. To me this was a really useful part of the consultation as I’d spoken to friends who had previously undergone laser hair removal elsewhere with mixed results. In some cases it turned out that their particular combination of hair and skin colour just wasn’t ideal for the procedure, but they hadn’t been told this beforehand. HlA were completely upfront about what would work and what wouldn’t for me personally.
Piper talked me through the whole procedure very clearly right from what would be done at that initial consultation, through to how the course of six sessions would be structured and the results I could expect to see.
The final part of the consultation itself was a patch test when I got to experience what the laser treatment was really like. In my case Piper actually tested two areas – one on my face and a second on my leg – and it was fascinating to see how they felt compared to what I had been expecting. There was absolutely no pain or discomfort at all during the patch test, just a slightly strange sensation on my skin; but not an unpleasant one. The test hardly took any time at all and it really did put to bed any nagging doubts about laser hair removal.
So, initial consultation and patch test successfully completed and feeling confident with both HlA Studio and Piper, I went home and spoke to a few more friends before making my decision and booking myself in for a full course. I’ll let you know how the rest of it goes.
HlA Studio are based at Bare Beauty Salon on Bushey High Street in Bushey. There is a large, free car park just seconds from the front door and we are a short drive from Radlett, St Albans, Watford, Elstree and Borehamwood.

I am really interested in having this done, I was conned about a year ago from a company at Bluewater who took a deposit of £200 and then closed shop!
Still, I’d like to do this as my bikini line is proving more and more difficult to tidy, creams bring me up in a rash as does electrical shaving and waxing needs appointments and maintenance too.
Interesting, I’m looking forward to hearing more about it.

Well that’s the thing Mari – I struggled to find real people who had had to done so I’m hoping my blog posts help other people to make a decision about whether to go for the treatment course or not.
