I was absolutely delighted when an email came through from Wicked Uncle asking if I’d be interested in reviewing some of their products. You see Little Miss C and Master C have three uncles in total – all of whom consider themselves to be wicked – and they’ve actually received a few gifts bought on the Wicked Uncle site before. I’ve always been impressed by them and when I spoke to one of the Uncles involved he was really pleased with them too, so I thought I’d give them a whirl myself.
I was sent £40 to spend on the site and I have to be honest and say that at first I kind of assumed it wouldn’t stretch that far, but actually I was really impressed with what I could get for that amount of money there.
Let’s go back a step though – the whole design behind Wicked Uncle is that you go on there not really knowing what you want to buy for your nephew or niece (or indeed any child that you’re buying for) but instead you whose what gender and age of child you’re buying for and they put suggestions in front of you.
I’m often sceptical about sites that split by gender, but I was pleased to see a lot of overlap between the boys and girls gift suggestions and it certainly didn’t feel like all that was on offer for the girls was pink and fluffy.
I spent a lovely half hour or so browsing the site and actually came up with some amazing options for both kids. There was genuinely loads of stuff that I thought both would like to receive and I thought the overall range was a very good one. A bit hard to explain, but all the items were perfect to be gifts rather than just toys too.
So what did I choose with my budget.
Firstly for Master C I went for the Convertible Fire Engine, book and playmat. This is quite simply genius. As well as being a large book, you can then open it out so that it lays on the floor as a playmat so that Master C can run his cars on it, or you can assemble it into a fire engine that he can actually sit inside! Pure genius.
For Little Miss C I actually chose two things. The first was a colour changing owl umbrella. She loves having an umbrella when it is raining and I just liked the idea of a colour changing one. I was also really impressed when we tried it out with the hosepipe in the garden at home.
For boys there are also a colour changing pirate umbrella and a dinosaur one available too.
I also selected the Melt and Make Chocolate Lollipop Animals which we finally got round to making together last weekend. This set contains everything you need apart from a bowl to melt the chocolate in. It was a lovely activity for us to do together and as a bonus you end up with five chocolate lollipops to eat too.
The plastic moulds are reusable meaning that if you buy more chocolate and lolly sticks you can easily use them again.
Overall I was really impressed with the whole Wicked Uncle experience. The toys they sell are good quality ad perfect as gifts. Their website is straightforward to use and very good if you’re not sure what to buy for someone. The delivery notification and delivery itself all went without a hitch and I felt there was really good communication from the company when I placed my order.
It’s a big thumbs for Wicked Uncle up from us!
