Ladybird Tuesday often goes a bit AWOL over the festive period, but seeing as I always mean, but fail, to do a round up of Ladybird inspire gifts before each Christmas I though that instead I’d do a quick round up of the Ladybird presents I was lucky enough to receive on Christmas day.
First up was a gift from my husband that I’d actually put on my Christmas list – The Ladybird Story. This book started life as a PhD thesis on the history of Ladybird books and whilst it is written very much in an academic style, it is completely fascinating. I’ve not yet had the time to read it all properly, but I’m already loving the appendix containing a list of all titles published up to 1979. When I’ve got the time I’ll certainly be updating my collecting list using this as the basis for what I’m aiming to find over the next 12 months.
My mum also went with the Ladybird theme and I was delighted to receive a copy of Ladybird: a cover story. The artwork of Ladybird books is such a vintage classic and so many of these old covers evoke so many childhood memories. It’s the perfect book to dip into every now and again and it’s also lovely to see how many of these books have made it into my collection.
The second book that my mum gave me was a reproduction copy of the Ladybird London book from series 618. Now, I reviewed one copy of this title a while ago here on Ladybird Tuesday, but what is fascinating is that this book has a different dust jacket image – one of the London underground map. Information on Amazon suggests that this version was published in December 2014, but the inside appears to be identical to the 2011 reprint that I already own. I’m struggling to find out much more about this newer version though – or why the tube map is on the cover as I’ve not seen it on any previous version. Time to do a bit of research on this one…
Finally the loverly Danny from Clouds in my Coffee knows very well how much I love Ladybird books and I was very touched to receive this Ladybird notebook from him with a cover from the popular Ladybird Keywords series (book 1a in case you’re interested). I know Ladybird covers and artwork have been used on many products over the last few years, but strangely very few of these things have made it into my collection. A notebook like this is the perfect way to bring a bit of Ladybird nostalgia into everyday life though, although I’m still undecided as to whether I should use this one to plan my Ladybird Tuesday posts for 2015, or just to keep my list of books in my collection in my handbag. Decisions, decisions…

Oooh what lovely things! I love the notebook, I’ve added it to my Amazon wishlist for next Christmas! Sorry I’ve been absent from Ladybird Tuesday lately, I’m just doing some blog planning and I’ll hopefully be back from next week, starting with some lovely crafty Ladybird books that I received for my birthday a few months back!
