Just the mention of marmalade sandwiches and several generations instantly think of Paddington Bear. Has any one person (human or bear) ever had such a strong association with a specific food? He was always prepared for any adventure with his sandwiches packed carefully in his little brown suitcase and that’s what makes him the perfect bear for Warburtons to team up with this summer.
I fondly remember reading the Michael Bond books as a child and also enjoying the television adaptation of it. Strangely I still recall the phrase “Mr and Mrs Brown exchanged glances”, which seemed to be used frequently when they were despairing at what Paddington was getting up to next. As a child I didn’t really understand quite what this meant, and for ages I had this picture in my head of them exchanging their pairs of glasses. It was a while before I cottoned on to what they meant!
Warburtons are encouraging families to follow Paddington’s lead and go adventuring this summer. Paddington will even be joining some of them as he’s going to be travelling around the country on a double decker sized bus in the shape of a Warburtons Half & Half loaf to give adventure advice to people ahead of the school summer holidays. Not only will children get to meet Paddington, but they’ll also get to try his marmalade sandwiches and take away a copy of their special summer adventure guide which contains Warbeartons ‘Top 10 Family Adventures’ and ‘Top 10 Adventurous Sandwich Recipes’, created by sandwich guru Helen Graves.
As if this wasn’t enough of an adventure for the bear from darkest Peru, Paddington’s also changed the name on Warburton’s Bolton headquarters and on 6 million of their Half & Half products – the name Warbeartons is the one to look out for this summer.
Families are being asked to try to spot the Warbeartons Adventure Bus as it travels around the country and if they upload a picture of it on their Facebook page they may be in with a chance of winning a once in a lifetime family adventure holiday. You’ll also be able to track Paddington and the bus’ journey and possibly influence where they go next.
With the first ever Paddington movie launching on 28th November this year it’s going to be an adventure filled year for Paddington. I hope he’s packed enough marmalade sandwiches!
