Who doesn’t love a jigsaw? There’s something old fashioned but incredibly satisfying about getting all those pieces together in the right places to form the picture on the box lid. And it’s even more satisfying when you’ve managed to complete a particularly difficult bit of sky or grass – as we all know that all those shades of blue or green are incredibly difficult to get right. A few years ago, before children, Mr C bought me a couple as a Christmas present and it was great to sit down and spend a few hours doing them whilst listening to music – incredibly relaxing too.
Nowadays I’m most likely to be sat on the floor with Little Miss C trying to help her do one. Her love of jigsaws from when she was just turned two has continued, and although she may not be doing them everyday she really enjoys sitting down with a puzzle. Doing them has obviously helped her with fine motor skills and problem solving too. Looking at the survey that was commissioned by Jumbo, the manufacturer of Wasgij the No. 1 adult jigsaw puzzle range, to celebrate National Puzzle Day (today – 29th January 2014) it seems that 71% of the parents who play puzzles enjoy doing them with their children, so I’m obviously not alone.
LMC is a particularly big fan of the trio sets of puzzles where you get three puzzles, usually based on a famous children’s character, film or TV series, in the one box, each with a different number of pieces. That way children can start with the one with the largest pieces and build up their puzzling skills to the hardest one in the box.
