Review: CBeebies: The Album

07/11/2012

CBeebiesTheAlbum

Parents here in the UK certainly can't be in any doubt that their TV Licence is value for money and that's all thanks to the wonderful CBeebies. One disadvantage to allowing your little ones to watch CBeebies is that you will find yourself suddenly in the shower, or driving the car, and humming along to one of the songs that you've heard in there. If you're like me then it will be one that you don't quite know all the words to, but yet you still can't get it out of your head for the rest of the day.

Children love CBeebies and also love all the songs that are either part of their favourite programmes, or are part of the CBeebies continuity bits between programmes. To have all these songs together on one CD is a dream come true to little ones and that's exactly what the new CBeebies: The Album has. Not only are there the theme tunes to some of Little Miss C's favourite shows (Timmy Time, In The Night Garden and Everything's Rosie for example) but also some of the songs that the CBeebies presenters sing like the Goodnight Song that is played at the end of each day's viewing.

As soon as LMC heard this CD for the first time she was dancing around the room to the Justin's House theme tune. When the Yacki Song from Baby Jake came on I honestly thought she was going to burst with excitement! On the first listen there were some tracks that she wanted me to skip – mainly the themes for programmes that she doesn't know or watch – but all the ones that related to programmes she knew she was thrilled by. She was a tad confused as to why she couldn't immediately watch all the shows she liked when she heard the music, but to some extent that's understandable as she'd only previously related the songs to the programme being on television right then. After a few more plays of the CD she was able to understand the difference between the music on CD and the television.

We've a couple of long car journeys coming up this weekend and LMC can get a bit impatient to reach Granny's house on these trips, so I'm hoping that having familiar music like this will help to distract her for a while longer as we head up the motorway. Any toddler who likes CBeebies would love to receive this in their Christmas stocking and I'm sure many parents would also appreciate time to relax whilst their children burn off some extra energy dancing round teh living room to their favourite songs.

Disclaimer: I was sent a copy of CBeebies: The Album for the purposes of this review.
