Following on from my post on Monday I have to give full marks to the National Trust for the speed with which they have responded to me. Not long after 9am on the Tuesday morning I had received an email holding response from the Wimpole Estate and that morning both the Estate and the National Trust centrally had also responded to me on Twitter.
At just 2pm there was a full response from the General Manager at the Wimpole Estate which I include below.
Here at Wimpole Estate we take our position of sustainability very seriously; whether this is the continual conservation work we do in both the parkland and our historic buildings, or the rare breed animals we rear from “field to plate”.
I really appreciate your comments regarding the recycling in the farm kitchen. As we currently stand we do recycle our cardboard and paper across the estate. This year with the help of a new position we have, Jamie our Premises Manager is working on a far more reaching recycling strategy, as I feel we can continue to improve this area.
The Farm Kitchen itself is due to close for a full refurbishment after the Easter holidays, to be open for the summer holidays. As well as improving the space, we are looking to introduce more estate produce onto the menu (including the children’s offer), more efficient and sustainable heating and a stronger recycling ethos. Jamie, is project managing this change.
Over the festive period we did have issues with the dishwasher breaking down, which is due to be replaced as part of the aforementioned project, but I feel we need to do this as soon as possible to enable us to go back to using more crockery, which can be washed up and reduce the need to use plastic or cardboard.
I am delighted you enjoy visiting us here at Wimpole and we will keep updating through our internet pages and social media with the progress of this new offer.
Please do not hesitate in contacting me if you would like any more information (we are due to sign the project off on 19/1/12) and I look forward to you visiting Wimpole again and hopefully enjoying the newly refurbished Farm Kitchen in the summer.
It sounds like the Estate have plans to change and I certainly have no reason not be believe that this will be the case. I'm sure we'll be back soon and hopefully by the time we visit again in the summer things will be much improved.
For other organisations and companies reading this I would like to say that speed, thoroughness and joined up nature of the National Trust's response to me here is an excellent example of how complaints should be handled. Thank you National Trust!
