Mr C and I have spent the weekend trying to find a new home. In two days we've looked at eight houses in St Albans and driven round checking a few more out from the outside. We've been looking now for eighteen months and to be honest we're getting rather tired. Somehow when it comes to actually seeing the houses Mr C really enjoys it, but after a couple I start to feel rather weary. By the end of yesterday I was shattered.
The good news is that we do seem to have found a couple that we like the look of. We obviously need to go back and look at them again, but it does at least tell us that what we're after is out there. The difficult part is likely to be actually getting a sale to go through. In the last year we've had offers in on three different houses and none of them have gone through. It's quite a depressing feeling. At the moment it feels like life is on hold a little bit and that's quite annoying in itself.
With the current financial situation in the UK we're also having to keep a close eye on the mortgage market. Having already sole our flat and renting at the moment puts us in a good position, but with the deposit we have we can only get a mortgage at around 4.99%, yet the Bank o England base rate is down at 1%. That just doesn't seem right to me.
At the end of the day I'm not looking to the property market to make money and I'm certainly not thinking of a house as an investment. I just want a family home. I just hadn't realised before just how difficult that was going to be.
I hope you find somewhere you both love VERY soon…..
