I seem to be reading rather quickly this week and have already finished the next book I have in the No 1 Ladies Detective Agency series: The Full Cupboard of Life. Yet another fantastic read with larger than life characters.
Mma Potokwani at the Orphan Farm is once again taking advantage of Mr J. L. B. Matekoni's inability to say no to her requests and finds himself in the frame to do a parachute jump to raise money for the orphans – not something that him or Mma Ramotswe are happy about.
At the same time the question as to why Mma Ramotswe and Mr J. L. B. Matekoni are still engaged and not yet married is raised. Both Mma Potokwani and Mma Makutsi have their own views as to what should happen next – but do the engaged couple agree?
Conversation in the work canteen today got round to books and the No 1 Ladies Detective Agency series in particular. It seems my colleague L has the whole series at home and has offered to bring in the books that I'm missing so that I can borrow them – yippee! I also discovered that a film version
has been made of the first book in the series. Can't wait to get that out from Blockbuster.

I read and enjoyed the first five (I think there are more?) in the series – such fun joyous books with wonderful larger than life characters.

I loved this whole series!
Couldn’t get enough of them…

Your real-life doppelganger aka Alice C. “the other Mrs C” has sent me here. So glad she did. For I love, love, love all things Alexander McCall Smith!
The ‘traditionally built’ and most lovely Mma Romotswe is my hero. Mma. Makutsi, with her gorgeous, uncomfortable shoes and oversized glasses is also a favorite of mine.
If only I could sit and observe them in their little office–while perhaps drinking a cup of hot red bush tea…
I’m pining away as I wait for the next installment in the series.
Enjoy your reading! So nice to “meet” you, Mrs C.

So good to meet you all as well! I totally know what you mean about being in love with this series – they’re just great. The phrase “traditionally built” just makes me smile!
