I get quite a few e-mails from Amazon and I have to admit that quite a few of them end up not being read properly. However, I am a big fan of the recommendations that they send out and have discovered quite a few good authors via this route.
I've not really tried out the system for non-fiction books, but having now bought quite a few knitting related books I'm starting to get some interesting recommendations into my inbox. One that arrived recently that I took advantage of was Knitalong: Celebrating the Tradition of Knitting Together by Larissa and Martin John Brown.
Knitalong is, as the name suggests, a book all about people knitting together. It looks at how people used to knit together out of necessity back in the late 1700 through to modern day and the role of the Internet in bringing a new generation of knitters together. Examples are given of how people collaborate to knit for others, both as gifts and for those in need. There are some fantastic examples of where people have been meeting up to knit in public - Stitch N' Pitch being a particular one that amused me! The book also contains some great patterns and I'm particularly looking forward to trying the Pinwheel Blanket.
The book has quite a natural American focus (a bit obvious having been written by Americans) but there is still mention of non-US knitalongs. There's also a whole website dedicated to the book where further details can be found.
I'll certainly be looking out for further knitting book recommendations from Amazon as this was one that I did enjoy!
