It seems as though as soon as the cold weather hits, that we find ourselves with many illnesses, especially if we have children. Children, of course, are less keen to wash their hands and stay away from the illnesses so, therefore, pass them on to us quite quickly. But there are a few things that you can do that will prevent you from needing to see a doctor this season, and With some common sense, and a little bit of effort, you should be able to find yourself fit and healthy through this winter. And it doesn’t take too much effort to find yourself well.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C has been proven to be one of the best vitamins to help with the recovery of illnesses such as the cold virus. Many other infections can be prevented with a higher dose of vitamin C in your diet as well. You don’t have to reach for the supplements, however, but you will find yourself needing the strepsils less if you eat a few extra oranges, and apples, because you know what they say, an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Once you know which fruit and vegetables have high vitamin C then you can add this into Your diet more, and hopefully keep those germs at bay. Adding extra broccoli to your Sunday roast, having a nice salad with tomatoes spinach and sweet potatoes, and including some cauliflower on your midweek dinners, are to boost your vitamin C intake quite quickly.

Stay Hydrated
Evidence shows that most people don’t drink anywhere near enough, and many of us spend our time dehydrated, which can cause us to feel tired, produce headaches, and feel overall unwell. This is obviously not a good starting point for when the winter season and all of the bugs it brings with it appear. It really doesn’t take much to carry a hydro bottle with you and fill it up regularly. This is especially true for if you have plenty of exercise in your life, and you must remember that water is the alexia of life. This is something that you should encourage your children to be aware off as well since children are always so busy they quite often forget to drink.
Exercise
Exercise is known to boost your immune system. Keep in your body moving, and making sure that you are increasing those endorphins and other happy hormones, can not only boost your immune system but also promote your overall mental health. We tend to look after ourselves much better when we are feeling good, so taking up some extra exercise to the winter is certainly not a bad idea. It can actually change your life to some degree because the additional benefits you gain from exercising are unparalleled. This is why the fitness industry is such a Successful industry. Just finding the correct exercise that suits you, and helps you feel good about yourself, will be the right choice. As long as you are using your muscles, and your cardiovascular system, you find it easier to fight off bugs as you go.
Rest
Taking rest when you aren’t feeling your best, is crucial. Your body will be working hard to fight off any infection, so you mustn’t overexert yourself and end up making it worse. If you do make it worse for yourself your recovery time will be longer, and you may end up in a worse situation than if you had just taken a day or 2 to rest up. Many people make the mistake of going back to work too early after dealing with an illness, and you don’t want to be one of those people. If you aren’t sure whether you are feeling up to work or not, then maybe speak to a doctor and find out what the right thing to do is. There are plenty of pieces of advice online to follow, but if you are genuinely feeling ill, it’s best to stay at home with a blanket, and a honey and lemon, until you feel better.
Hygiene
Hygiene is of the utmost importance during the winter months when contagious viruses and bugs are flying around. Making sure that you wash your hands, and use handrail in between washes, plus trying not to touch your face as much as possible, is going to help you prevent the spread of illnesses. Not only is this beneficial for yourself, but it is essential for those of us around that are vulnerable and may find themselves more prone to severe illnesses during the winter. Encouraging this in your children as well is also a great idea.
