January – all the things I’d forgotten I’d done

Did I fall asleep or something? Where on earth did January go? It seems like only two minutes since Christmas and New Year, but then at the same time they also feel like a lifetime ago. So, what exactly have I been up to in January. Sitting here now it seems a bit hard to work out exactly what I've been up to for the whole month, but I'm sure I'll work it out. The biggest thing has probably been that January has been the month in which I started running again. Here I am on the 29th of the month and I'm delighted to say that I've clocked up a whole 70km in January (so far!) and am ... read more

Why I will be sending Christmas Cards this year

03/12/2015

Christmas Cards

If you're on Facebook or email I'm pretty sure that over the next week or so you'll start seeing messages along the lines of: Just so you know we're not doing Christmas cards this year, but we will be making a donation to charity instead. Merry Christmas everyone and Happy New Year! That's all fine and dandy, and everyone's entitled to do whatever they want, not only at Christmas, but for the rest of the year too. But as someone who hasn't given up on Christmas cards I thought it about time to actually shout about why I will be sending them this year, and why I'd encourage others to do the ... read more

The rhythm of life

25/09/2015

Rhythm of Life Crochet

I can't hear those four words without bursting into song in my head. My old school choir did an amazing version of The Rhythm of Life that used to make the hairs on the back of my neck just stand on end every single time. Somewhere at my mum's I'm sure there's a cassette recording of it which has to be reason in itself to dig out an old walkman and wire it up somehow. The rhythm of life has changed somewhat here over the last couple of months and it's taking a bit of time to get used to. Master C finished at nursery at the end of July and I strangely found the whole thing a bit emotional. ... read more

Busy Being

Busy Being Mrs C

Things here have been a bit quiet on the blogging front lately and there's a very simple reason for that. I've been busy being. The only thing is, until this morning I wasn't totally sure exactly what it was I was busy doing. I then had a bit of a lightbulb moment when a friend of mine linked to this wonderful blog post by Richard Branson. If you don't follow his blog then you really should do. He writes on a huge range of subjects, but does so in such a way that you can easily imagine that you're just sat having a chat with him in a local pub beer garden over a cold drink - rather than him ... read more

The MADS 2015

15/05/2015

Seven years. Yep, this month I will be celebrating the 7th anniversary of when I started writing Being Mrs C and boy what a lot has happened in those 7 years! We've moved house into a proper family home, I gave up my job in London and we've also started a family with the arrival of Little Miss C and Master C. My motivation when I started this blog was to record and share the things in life which make me smile and that's what I still aim to do today - although I admit that a few challenging times have snuck in too. I wanted to motivate myself to focus on those good things in life though and ... read more

Introducing the Pointy Nosed Pooch and Finding Balance

01/04/2015

Sewn Dog Finding Balance

It's funny how sometimes you don't realise what is missing in your life until it is reintroduced and then you're left wondering how you ever coped without it. Back when I started this blog (nearly 7 years ago now) one of the main drivers was because I was feeling swamped by my day job and I wanted to force myself to make the time for all the crafty things I enjoy. It may seem a bit like a backwards way of doing things, but I was determined to actually do some of the things that I was reading about on other people's blogs, and for me a way to do that as to make myself write about what I got ... read more

Calming down after Christmas with a bedtime story

16/01/2015

Topsy and Tim

I don't know about you, but after Christmas here it seemed like the kids went more than a little bit loopy. I'm not sure if it was all to do with life being really busy with lots of friends and family to see over the holiday, or going away, or the influx of new toys for them both, but this year it's really taken a while for life to get back to normal. I've often found that the only time of the day that's been more predictable was just before bed. That nice bit of time when all the stress of getting them upstairs for a bath is behind you, and all that is left is a good old bedtime story and ... read more

The magic of a white Christmas

01/01/2015

White Christmas Snowman

Here we are on the first day of a new year. Mr C is back to work tomorrow, Master C back to nursery and I think it's therefore time to say that Christmas 2014 is over. The last ten days seem to have vanished in a bit of a whirlwind, but I think it fair to say we had a good Christmas. The emergency dentist appointment for me and both kids being at the GPs on the Monday and Tuesday of Christmas week made me wonder if we were going to be a house full of sick people for the big day itself, but luckily I think we dodged a bullet there. We just had my mum staying with us for Christmas itself and ... read more

Review: Pamper Parcels

12/12/2014

Pamper Parcels

It's is exhausting being a mum. To be honest I'm finding having a four year old and a two year old more exhausting than the newborn days. There are still some sleepless nights, but there's also all the stuff that needs doing in the daytime. Masses of laundry, school homework, forms that need returning, pre-school visits to do, school run, nursery run, swimming lessons, playgroup, shopping, cleaning, school uniform to mend, school shoes to buy, the daily routine of getting through meals and bath and bed time. It can feel like an endless treadmill. Christmas just adds to the workload. There ... read more

Understanding what loyalty really is

24/10/2014

Friendship Loyalty

Today is the last day of Little Miss C's first half a term at school proper. As she'd been at our local infant school for her pre-school year I'd always assumed that it would be quite an easy transition into reception, and in many ways it has, but at the same time I'd also underestimated somewhat how different it also all is due to that extra year of age. LMC is now four, and will turn 5 later in the school year and that seems to be an age when children are so much more aware of the other children they're at school with and the concept of friends. There are children in her class that she ... read more
