Choosing The Right Colour Contact Lenses For Any Look

20/02/2026

Whether you’re aiming to really pop for an event where you’re expecting some photography, or you simply want to switch up your look in a new way, colour contact lenses can be a great way to do it. However, the sheer range of options at your disposal can make it difficult to choose which direction to really go. Here, we’re going to look at some options to consider, and how you can narrow down your choices, as well as make the best use of them.

Consider Your Natural Palette

First of all, you should consider what palette your natural features contribute to, and which colours can better harmonise with them. Both your hair colour and your skin undertones play an important role. For instance, cooler undertones often work well with grey, icy blue, or green lenses, while warmer tones work better with honey, hazel, and brown shades. You can shift your palette somewhat with tanning products and the right makeup, but there’s only so much wiggle room that can offer, and you might not want to work that hard just to be able to choose a different pair of lenses. Your hair colour is a little more easily altered, but you should also consider your eyebrow colour and contrast levels, as it’s going to be a lot more noticeable with lenses that don’t work well with them.

Are You Going Subtle Or Bold?

Think about your objectives when you’re choosing lenses. If you’re going to a wedding or a more formal event and you want to pop a little more for photos, but you don’t want to stand out too much, then choosing to enhance your natural shade, such as using green contact lenses to help paler green eyes look a little more vivid and vibrant, might be the approach. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a more bold look, whether to suit a whole new aesthetic in your style or to give you showstopping looks on a night out, then bolder opaque lenses can be perfect. Always think about setting and purpose when you’re putting together your look, and it will help you narrow your options right down.

Consider Comfort, Fit, And Lens Material

It’s not just the colour that matters, but how well the lens itself matches the needs of the eye. For one, ensure you’re getting them only from reputable providers that provide safe, quality products. The lenses should be made with breathable materials, allowing oxygen to reach the eye, and they should fit well to prevent irritation, dryness, or blurred vision. It’s always a good idea to carry some eye drops with you, as even the best lenses can take a little adjustment, and keeping your eyes comfortable is important for their long-term health.

The good thing about contact lenses is that they’re easily removable, meaning you can reverse any change you don’t like and try a different shade. However, it does deserve a little consideration first, just to make sure you’re spending your money well.
