5 Snacks Every Household Needs in Their Cupboards

05/01/2026

A tasty meal is great, but it also serves a functional purpose. Snacks, on the other hand, are there to offer us little more than a taste of the good life. While there are snacks that offer additional value — nuts are a great source of energy, for instance — by and large, snacks are all about delivering a quick hit of deliciousness.

And what’s nice about snacks is that they have a long shelf life. You can buy them and simply keep them in your cupboards until you’re ready to unlock the flavour.

As you might expect, the list of snacks available to buy is long. To help ensure that you’re fully stocked with the snacks you, your family, and guests need, we’ve put together some examples of the best snacks that every household should have in its cupboards.

Popcorn

Popcorn still feels like an underrated snack. While it’s unlikely that you’ll have it every day, on certain occasions, it’ll absolutely be the right option.

And by ‘certain occasions,’ we mean ‘enjoying an epic movie night with family.’ You’ll find some pretty delicious popcorn brands on the supermarket shelves, though if you’re really committed, then you can always think about investing in a popcorn maker and making your own!

Sweet Treats

Is a house really a home if it doesn’t have some sweet treats in the cupboard? Not in our view. Sweets and chocolate are great to have in the house because A. They’re perfect for when you need a quick and delicious sugar fix, and B. Literally every human on the planet loves them, ensuring that you’ll always have a fast-track method for putting a smile on the faces of your family members and guests (and yourself, of course!). Looking for a nostalgic sweet option that is perfect to have in the cupboard? Then create your own pick & mix sweets online — it’s a great way to get all the classic sweets that you love the most, and none of the ones that you don’t. You also can’t go wrong by having some all-out legendary British chocolate bars in the pantry, too, including Flakes, Crunchies, and the standard Cadbury Dairy Milk bar.

Nuts

It’s easy to overlook nuts, especially when you’re thinking about stocking up on snacks. Yet while they might be a little less fun than other snack options, they do have some qualities that make them easy to love. For one thing, there are plenty of different nuts available, with almonds, pistachios, pecans, and cashews being among the most popular. Second, they’re also good for you, which can be nice when you’re looking for a snack that you can eat in abundance guilt-free. You’ll find that the plain, untreated nuts are the best for your health, though you can always buy a few bags of flavoured nuts. Just remember that they’re generally not as good for you.

Crisps Galore

Finally, it’s not a British kitchen with a strong crisp presence. Load up on those multipacks, and you’ll always have something delicious within reach.
