Get the basics right

Sometimes employees are quick to jump into things like adding a pool table to the office, or organising a staff night out. And while this is definitely appreciated, it’s also no good if you haven’t sorted out the basics. Ensure your staff get paid on time with an efficient payroll software, provide free tea and coffee in the workplace, and try to allow flexibility with hours or working from home for those that might need it. People who have families or live far away, will appreciate little things like this that make a huge difference to their day.

Offer rewards

As well as the basics, it’s always nice to offer a reward or incentive to show your employees that you want to go the extra mile for them. Plus if you do this, they’re more likely to do the same for you. You can offer rewards such as finishing early on a Friday, or commission if they get a certain number of sales. You could have an employee of the week, or perhaps give them the day off on their birthday, or send them away for a night to a nice hotel. It’s these things that will set you apart from other employers and greatly improve staff morale.

Recognize their hard work

There is nothing worse than putting your all into your job only for it to go unnoticed. When this happens, employees are much less likely to want to work hard in the future as they know they’ll get the same recognition as someone who puts in much less work than they do. To avoid this from happening, ensure you praise and recognize those who have been going above and beyond and really trying their best to achieve their goals and get as much done as possible. It could be an email, a phone call, or a shout out in a staff meeting – it’s always appreciated.

These are just a few things you can do that can help to improve staff morale. Whether you are looking to reward the hard work they’ve done, or simply get them paid on time (and with a bonus on top!) it’s all sure to help. Busy times of year are often the most testing so you want to retain loyal staff and show them you appreciate everything they have done. What are some top tips you have for improving staff morale? Let us know in the comments below, we’d love to hear from you.
