How To Avoid Spending A Fortune On A Kitchen Renovation

Spending a lot of money on a kitchen renovation is something that many people consider inevitable. After all, most people spend thousands on them.

But it turns out that you might not have to. While you still need to pay for quality, there are numerous ways to reduce your costs and get the kitchen you want without emptying your bank account.

Here’s what to do:

Opt For An Affordable Countertop Material

First, you’ll want to start by opting for affordable countertop materials. Reducing the cost of these as much as you can is often an excellent way to bring expenses in line with your budget, however modest it might be.

The cheapest option is usually laminate. But if that’s off the table, you could opt for concrete or butcher block. These are often less than 10% of the price of cut stone or quartz.

Use Peel-And-Stick Backsplash Materials

Another way to reduce costs significantly is to change your backsplash materials. Using peel-and-stick instead of conventional tiles reduces costs substantially (often considerably more than you think).

These tiles are useful because they reduce the risk of having to add traditional lining. They also cut down on labor costs, which is helpful for a lot of people.

Shop For Secondhand Appliances

You could also try shopping for second-hand appliances. Again, these tend to be much cheaper than buying them brand new, saving you a small fortune in the process.

Secondhand appliances are relatively easy to come by these days, especially online. However, you can also find them at local stores.

Shop For Use Cabinets

Related to this last point, you may want to buy used in frame kitchens. Again, these bring down your costs substantially.

These cabinets are usually ex-display but otherwise as good as new. Whether you want to purchase them is essentially up to you, but they can be less than half of the price of the original ones.

There is usually some work involved in taking them apart. However, this tends to be minimal, and sellers will sometimes do it for you for a fee.

Keep The Layout The Same

Another way to massively reduce your kitchen renovation costs is to keep the layout the same. Sticking with the same patterns can be a great way to reduce your expenses and still get the look you want.

Changing things around is often practical, but it can be very expensive, too. For example, moving the oven’s position sometimes requires rewiring and then building the rest of the kitchen around it. By simply sticking with the same positions for everything, you can avoid a lot of this.

DIY Where Possible

Finally, you can DIY where possible. For example, you could paint walls or install new hardware. You could also lay tiles or install new refrigerators yourself. You don’t always need to hire professionals to do this work for you.

Mix High With Low

Finally, you might consider mixing high- and low-end materials. These can be complementary, allowing you to splurge where you want beauty, and cut costs in places it doesn’t matter as much.
