How to Make Your Home Look Cosy From the Outside

12/09/2023

Creating a cosy and inviting interior is a priority for many homeowners. First impressions matter, so, of course, you want your home to feel like it’s cherished, lived in and welcoming to yourself and your guests. Decluttering and decorating are typically the best course of action to elevate your interior.

But have you ever considered whether your home looks and feels cosy from the outside? This may sound like an odd idea, but your curb appeal and home facade could also do with a cosy touch. After all, if first impressions really matter most, then it is fair to focus on the exterior too. Here are some ideas to elevate your home’s look and feel.

Invest in quality curtains

The addition of quality curtains can bring your room decor together. But it can also enhance your home’s exterior. Indeed, curtains can be seen from the outside, and they can act as a decorative feature. So, if you are considering replacing your curtains, you may want to consider not only how they would elevate your interior style but also your exterior. For example, you may want curtain colours and styles that complement each other, as they will be seen, from the outside, as part of one single ensemble.

Your curtains add an element of sophistication and charm, creating a cosy and inviting atmosphere. They both shield the interior and reveal your taste at the same time.

A soft facade wash

Your facade is exposed to the elements so it is normal for it to accumulate dirt and grime over the years. You may want to give it a good clean-up to revitalise its appearance. Before you reach out to a brush and a bucket of soapy water, here’s a tip for you: Book a professional soft wash service. If you are unsure what it is, this soft wash FAQ should answer all your questions. This gentle cleaning technique can help remove dirt and stains from your facade, including stucco, brick, and siding so your home can feel uniformly cleaned.

This is a great way to rejuvenate your home facade and showcases the true appeal of your property. With time, homes can feel grimy and unpleasant to external onlookers. Removing years of accumulated stains will contribute to a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Paint the facade

What colour is your facade? Most homeowners are unsure which colour to use, so white, cream, and magnolia facades are among the most commonly seen. Those, however, can look a little dull. While painting your home’s facade can be a delicate choice, there is thankfully plenty of guidance available on the trendiest colours to select year after year.

Earth-inspired hues, such as clay, stone, or rich brown are gaining in popularity. Organic colours help make your home feel part of its environment. Sea inspirations are still going big, with dark blues and greys, a fantastic option for a classic and contemporary facade. If you prefer something brighter, pale greens and soft pinks are coming as a replacement for the whites and creams, offering a subtle shade that is bathed with light.

For a high-contrasting look, you can also venture in the realm of dark greens or even blacks. However, these high statement colours are not for the faint of heart.

Clean the gutters

While this seems like an obvious thing to say, not many homeowners keep up with gutter maintenance. Debris and leaves can become apparent to bystanders, which will make your home appear untidy and messy from the outside. Additionally, a clogged up gutter can lead to rainwater overflowing. Rather than escaping through the gutter system, rain could overflow and create wet patches on the roof or on the exterior wall. There’s more than a matter of appearance to consider here. This could potentially compromise the integrity of your home structure.

Similarly, you also want to keep your roof checked. Mossy roof tiles and shingles are no statement pieces. Moss could affect the roof structure, weakening your shingles and leading to potential leaks. A clean roof is both a win for curb appeal and for home comfort!

Decorate the porch

Your porch is the entrance to your home. So, there is a lot you can do to make it look more inviting to potential visitors. For instance, you can add decorative elements, such as hanging baskets with plants, or even an elegant lighting fixture. Similarly, painting your front door can also go a long way in showcasing your style. A word of warning, however, make sure that your front door complements your facade paint rather than clashing with it! This will convey a sense of warmth, hospitality, and elegance.

It’s time to transform your home’s exterior to create a cosy look and feel. Remember, the key is to choose elements that resonate with your personal style and overall aesthetics.
