How to Support Your Child’s Education Post-COVID

Spending so much time away from school during the pandemic was something that delighted some kids and left others upset and unsettled. There is no doubt that the lockdowns were a difficult time for everyone, but the changes involved were incredibly challenging for kids. Whether your child enjoyed spending extra time at home and taking part in remote learning or found it difficult, many parents worry about the impact that this time away from education in the classroom had on their kids. Research shows around one-third of parents fear their child has fallen behind on their education due to this significant period away from school. If you are concerned that your child may have missed out on crucial learning opportunities due to the pandemic, you may be looking for ways to support your child’s continued learning in the wake of the lockdowns. The following tips will provide you with a starting point that you can build on to continue supporting your child’s education post-COVID.

Speak With Your Child’s Teacher

Trying to arrange to speak to your child’s teacher is the best place to start when attempting to support their learning from home. Your child’s teacher should be able to tell you how they have adjusted to life back in school after the pandemic and whether they are still progressing at the same rate as before the lockdowns. Discussing your child’s progress with their teacher and identifying any potential areas where they may need extra support can be a helpful way to address any gaps in their learning before they become more significant issues. The teacher should be able to offer advice on how you can support the work that your child is learning in school and may be able to provide additional resources for you to use at home.

Try Tutoring

Enlisting the help of a tutor to support your child’s post-COVID learning can be an excellent way to gain additional help if your child is struggling with some subjects. But, even children that are thriving at school can benefit from the one-to-one attention offered by a tutor. Choosing the right tutor for your child is essential to ensure that they get maximum benefits from their sessions. Using a resource such as the Online tutoring directory is an excellent way to find a qualified tutor easily and to get your child’s learning back on track.

Consider Online Schooling Options

For some children, returning to in-person schooling after the pandemic has been an uphill battle. The shift back to traditional classrooms has left some students feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or simply struggling to re-engage with structured learning environments. If your child has found it difficult to adjust, an alternative approach, like attending the 21st Century Cyber Charter School, could be the perfect solution. Online schooling provides a more flexible, personalized learning experience that allows students to work at their own pace while receiving the support they need. This option can be particularly beneficial for children who thrived in remote learning during lockdowns or those who need a gentler transition back into structured education.

Read Together

While there may be a whole host of activities that you and your child can do to help support their learning, reading together is the simplest and one of the most effective things that you can do. Reading to your child and getting them to read to you is a valuable way to nurture a love of books that will stay with your child throughout their life. Sharing books with your child and reading a range of different texts will help them build their understanding and vocabulary, which will complement their learning in school and provide far-reaching benefits during their education and beyond.
