5 Creative Ways to Brighten a Dark Room

15/02/2022

Light is an essential factor in living spaces, and gloomy rooms can be a source of frustration in your home. Figuring out ways to let in more light in a dark room can sometimes prove a challenge. There are various conventional and creative ways you can do this and still maintain the ambiance and aesthetic of the room. Ranging from lighter decorations and paint, we will explore the most exciting ways to brighten up that gloomy room.

Use Multiple Layers of Lighting

Lighting is a problematic factor in any dark room, so increasing lighting is sure to solve the problem. There are typically three types: ambient lighting, task lighting, and accent lighting. Ambient light Is achievable by overhead fixtures such as chandeliers, track lights, floor, and table lamps. Task lighting lights where you perform certain activities. Such as a desk lamp, light on your workspace, or portable table lamps. Accent lighting accentuates art such as sculpture light, mounted picture light, and other wall-mounted lights. Combining all these layers of lighting is sure to add some more life and light to your otherwise gloomy room.

Mirrors

Light usually bounces off mirrors, so adding a couple of mirrors in strategic places will make it a bit brighter. Placing mirrors next to lamps or directly across from the window adds that dazzling effect to the room. Ensure the mirrors are well cleaned to ensure maximum light is reflected off of them.

Gentle Window Treatments

Window treatments are modifications or covers of the window mostly to add aesthetic to the room. There is a wide range of treatments that you can apply to the window to brighten the room. Brighter curtains or curtains with lighter fabric or sheers are a brilliant addition in this regard. Proper application of Custom window treatments such as roller shades which let in a decent amount of light with added privacy, is a brilliant idea. Brightly colored shades with a light material are bound to add sophistication and style while giving your room extra lighting. Avoiding dark-colored and heavy treatments and choosing translucent gentle treatments are ideal for best results.

Bright or Neutral Color Schemes

Leave out the dark and gloomy colors and pull out the bright colors to liven up the room. Adding metallic finishes also livens up the room and brings a little sparkle. The more colorful the paint, the lighter it will reflect. If you go for neutral colors for the walls, paint the ceiling white or a bright shade for a better effect.

Rugs and Bright Floor Finishes

Bring more life to the floor by considering happy colored rugs. A brightly colored carpet will make the floor glow and add a bit of texture and softness. The rug is ideal for rooms with dark floorboards. Opting for alternative floor finishes like brighter wood is also suitable as it compliments the rest of the lighting and adds to the aesthetic.

Wrapping up

Experimenting with extra lights scattered around the house or brighter furniture colors is also a good idea for a more bright room. If you follow the above tips, your home will be bright and dazzling with more style and sass.
