All you need to know about medical marijuana

04/01/2022

After a hard and long battle, medical marijuana is now legalised in many states. The plant that was once classified as a Schedule 1 drug is now being used in order to alleviate the symptoms of many disorders and ailments. It used to be the perfect therapeutic ingredient that was used in ancient times to alleviate different symptoms, for mental and spiritual well-being. There are now a ton of studies that indicate this psychoactive plant’s effectiveness in being a complementary form of treatment for a lot of things. If you are an avid reader and want to know more about medical marijuana, this article is for you.

The main constituents

There are two compounds that are the primary chemicals involved in marijuana’s therapeutic value. These are tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). Most natural plants of cannabis contain anywhere from 5% to 15% THC. This is the most active ingredient in the plant. CBD offers all the benefits that we look for without having any psychoactive components in it. This means that THC is the one that is responsible for the psychoactive effects that we feel, but in order to get these benefits, both should be used together since they give the “entourage effect.” CBD also has a ton of neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory properties in it.

The pharmacokinetics

Pharmacokinetics refers to the branch of pharmacology that is mostly concerned with the movement of drugs inside the body. This means that this is how THC and CBD will move within and interact with your body. THC binds to the cannabinoid receptors that are present in the human body and can help regulate appetite, sleep patterns, and even pain receptors. The effects of this can last for 2-3 hours, but this mainly depends on the dosage involved in it. There is also an oral mucosal spray containing THC that has been approved by the FDA for medicinal use.

Cannabis is quite potent

Today, all medical marijuana is going through checks and is being cross-bred for the best effect. This means that the buds today are super potent and can make you quite high. There are many strains that are available at OZ Dispensary for you to try out so that you can find your sweet spot. The average percentage of THC has risen from 4% in the 1990s to 17% in 2020. You can now even get concentrates that have almost 80% of THC in them.

Therapeutic uses

Most studies show that cannabis is most effective in treating cancer pain, issues from chemotherapy, and even HIV/AIDS. According to the American College of Physicians, these are the best issues to use marijuana for.

  • To increase your appetite if you are suffering from HIV/AIDS.
  • To help in the treatment of cancer pain.
  • To help deal with anxiety.
  • To help manage symptoms of depression.
  • To help you get a good night’s sleep.
  • To help deal with neuromuscular disorders such as a spinal cord history.
  • To lower down the frequency of epileptic seizures for patients who are drug-resistant and do not respond to treatment.

It is important to gather all of your knowledge before you dive into the world of medical marijuana. Use this to help you on your journey.
