How to Make Your Bedroom Feel Brand New on a Budget

07/12/2021

Your bedroom should be a safe haven. It is a space meant to offer a relaxing retreat after a stressful day. But in spite of that, most people tend to put it last when decorating or redesigning their houses. Perhaps it is because it is not the first room you see or that people visiting your house do not have to see it. That said, everyone deserves a relaxing and stylish bedroom that will contribute to a good night’s rest. Redesigning your bedroom does not have to cost an arm and a leg. A few simple changes here and there are enough to breathe new life into your bedroom. Here are some ideas:

Do something to the fifth wall

Upgrading the ceiling may be the oomph you need to get your bedroom looking new. Do not settle for the usual boring white ones. Go bold and paint the fifth wall in a daring colour. You could also opt to paint the ceiling the same colour as your walls. The lack of visual break between will create the illusion of a smaller and more intimate bedroom. Go the extra mile and make a statement by putting patterned wallpaper on the ceiling. Experimenting with your fifth wall will transform your space instantly.

Switch things up

You can get the feel of a brand-new bedroom without spending any money. But how? Switching up the layout is a no-cost method for giving your space a new look. Move furniture around. It will cost you little time and energy investment. You may want to do some decluttering when moving furniture. Get rid of unnecessary pieces to open up the space and have your bedroom feeling airy. You have no idea how much impact something as simple as switching the direction your bed faces makes in making you feel like you have a new bedroom.

Light it up

Lighting is an essential element in any room. It also goes a long way towards creating an inviting and relaxing atmosphere. In the bedroom, the overhead lighting is not that crucial. Focus on the bedside lamps and other kinds of accent lighting. Playing with lights will help create an inviting and comforting abode. Your bedroom will for sure feel like a retreat straight out of a magazine. Switch your current lamp shades. Alternatively, you could say goodbye to the traditional bedside lamps and opt for elegant wall-mounted sconces. Remember, it does not have to be too extra. Something as simple as getting warm-spectrum fluorescent lights in place of your old light bulb will create a relaxing atmosphere and give your bedroom a refreshing look and feel.

Add a fresh coat of paint

Painting a wall in your house is a thing that requires minimal effort but delivers maximum results. It is a low-cost thing to consider when itching for a new look for your bedroom. Give your bedroom some sophisticated richness vibe by painting a moody accent wall. If you are going for a more relaxing and restful vibe, you may want to opt for a light grey or pale blue colour. Do not reserve the painting for just your walls. Your furniture will also get a new lease on life with new paint. Sand down your tired dresser or nightstand and liven it with a fresh coat of bright and fun colours. While revamping your dresser and nightstand, you could consider getting new hardware. You will get the euphoria of waking up to seemingly new furniture and a brand-new looking bedroom.

Change your bedding

The bed is an integral focal point in any bedroom. Nothing makes a room feel fresher like new bedding does. Switching up a few things on the bed like the bed sheets and throw pillows do wonders to the room’s look. Get linen bed sheets in a different colour from your usual ones. That will make a significant style impact and get your bedroom feeling new. If you are unsure what colour of bedsheets to get, you could for the tried-and-true white. White bedding does well in all seasons. Switching up your accent pillows will also change the personality of your room and cause a shift in the balance of colour. A change of accent pillows will update your room by adding pattern, volume, texture, colour and personality.

Play with texture

Have different textures in your room playing together to create an atmosphere that speaks to your unique design aesthetic. Texture is well-suited for any taste. If you’re going for the traditional feel, you may want to incorporate woven wools, cut crystal, hand-tufted rugs, polished wood and tooled silver. If your bedroom style is more on the romantic side, look out for textures like velvet, crystal prisms, lace, furry throws, embroidered fabric and hand-hooked rugs. For country-style lovers, braided rugs, chenille spreads, blown glass, rusted metals and ironstone pottery do the trick. And for those who have a modern taste, laminated plywood furniture, smooth leather, stainless steel and teak have textures that will help highlight the aesthetic. Texture is a beautiful way to play with any style aesthetic and gives your bedroom a stylish appeal.

Add a personal touch

Your bedroom should reflect your personality. Add images and artefacts in line with your identity to personalize the space. Include bits and bobs of your passion projects in your bedroom. If you live hiking, bird watching or lean towards a specific sport, have elements that show that in your room. Display personal photographs and memories you share with your loved ones. That will not only make for a beautiful space. It will also help you feel surrounded by cherished memories. Try out different configurations for the frames by cutting shapes and taping them on the wall to see how they would look. You could also make a picture rail from a piece of regular moulding.

Upgrade the headboard

Do you know what will give you the satisfaction of a new bed without the cost associated with purchasing a new one? A new headboard. A dramatic headboard will give your bedroom an instant appeal. There are several options at different price points. You could also choose to reupholster your current headboard using beautiful fabric covers to create a cosy feel.

Do something to the boring closet doors

In most bedrooms, the closet doors occupy a significant portion of the wall space. Choose to make the most of that space by reinstating the bulky utilitarian doors with something more exciting like mirrored panels or chic French doors.

Conclusion

It is possible to get your bedroom looking brand-new with only a few simple changes. Regardless of your design aesthetic, there are several low-cost methods to make your bedroom look elegant yet comfortable.
