Here’s how to create a perfect work-life balance and have a fulfilling life

10/08/2021

Having a busy work-life and maintaining the charm in personal life can be challenging. But that isn’t the right way to live. In order to quench your thirst for success, you end up exhausting and draining your energy levels.

For most people, work takes precedence over everything else in their lives. In fact, many professionals have admitted the fact they forget to have lunch if they are swamped with work. Messed up work-life balance might also affect your marital or romantic relationships. According to therapists, many clients complain that their partner is always busy with files, laptops, business trips, and carrying work stress at home.

Your desire to succeed might end up putting your well-being and personal relationships on the back burner. Not only this but spacing out and prioritizing your career while neglecting your health and everything else around will only make things worse.

And that’s why you need to create a harmonious work-life balance. It is not only beneficial for your physical and mental health but is also crucial for your career. Read on to learn more about how to strike a perfect work-life balance and live a fulfilling life. Remember, the goal is to find a state of equilibrium where you can prioritize your work and keep your health and relationships in check.

  • Go easy on perfectionism

Workaholics usually spend all their time to be perfect and bring out the best in themselves. In the hustle and bustle of getting every promotion and overachieving everything with your perfectionism, you end up exhausting yourself. Not only this but wanting to be perfect all the time might even give rise to mental health issues such as OCD.

See, it is easier to maintain a perfectionist attitude with your school assignments where you have less workload. But as you grow up, things get messy and complicated. Not to mention, maintaining a perfectionist attitude becomes a bit tougher for you physically and neurologically.

With time your professional and personal responsibilities increase, and perfection becomes out of reach. So, you need to keep your habit in check and try to let go of perfectionism whenever you feel it is overwhelming you.

  • Prioritize your me-time

When was the last time you did your skincare routine? Or when was the last time you did something that made you smile or happy? If you can’t figure out the answer to these questions, then it is time to establish a fine line between work and personal life. Start this by not bringing your work home. No matter how tempting it may seem to finish your pending work on weekends, resist the urge and utilize the time to unwind.

Use your non-working hours doing something that makes you feel relaxed and recharge yourself for the upcoming day. Start by taking a long hot, and relaxing bath and use essential oils to de-stress from top to toes after having a long day at work. You can also add a touch of fizz to your bathing experience by adding scented candles.

Build a skincare routine and try to stick to it so that your skin doesn’t have to face the repercussions of your workaholic nature. Believe it or not, taking long relaxing baths after work can help you improve your mental health and achieve a good night’s sleep.

  • It is okay to unplug

Undoubtedly, technology has helped in making your professional lives so much easier. From checking your emails to tracking your performance, everything is on the tip of your fingers. But sometimes, always being available on your work phone and email can be frustrating. It might even make you feel that your workday never comes to an end. You need to know that work notification brings stress and makes you want to work even during your non-working hours.

Many professionals confirmed that once they started cutting ties with their work after working hours helped them recover from stress and refilled their energy levels. If you want to achieve a harmonious work-life balance, you need to start unplugging.

This means that you need to log out from your work phone, emails, and everything else that keeps on bugging you with notifications from work. Even if you are working from home, do the same thing as soon as your working hours end. Stop sending or replying to your official emails on weekends or during your non-working hours. This way, you’ll be able to enjoy your moments outside work and help you keep the stress at bay.

  • Nurture your personal relationships

As mentioned above, a messed-up work-life balance might affect your personal relationships. Imagine not being able to talk to your kids just because you are busy meeting the deadlines at work. That’s really sad. It will help if you consider taking some time off for your family and friends. See, your job is important, but it doesn’t have to take over your entire life. That’s why no matter how hectic your work schedule is, you shouldn’t skimp on important family or romantic dates. Just because you are swamped at work, your family and friends shouldn’t feel neglected.

In fact, a recent report confirmed that 52% of employees have unused vacation days left at the end of the year. They feel that taking time off from work might distract them and face a backlog after returning. That’s definitely not true. Taking family trips and vacations helps you bond with people you love and makes you feel more energetic and focused after you rejoin the workforce.

So, create a calendar that allows you to be more involved in your loved ones’ lives and spend quality time with them. Try to spend your weekends talking to your kids, parents, and partners. Find out about what’s going on in their lives, take them to picnics, and laugh with them.

In the end

Your love for work and success shouldn’t mess with your personal life. You need to strike a perfect work-life balance to deal with stress and enjoy your life. Use the tips mentioned above to achieve a perfect balance between your professional and personal life, and live a fulfilling life you always longed for.
