After being in lockdowns for most of the past year, the thought of summer being just around is a bit of positivity we all need. It’s the sign of a fresh start, and hopefully the chance to reunite with friends and family we haven’t been able to see very much.
But summer is also a good time for a fresh start for your health. If you’ve not been very active over the last year, or you’ve let your diet suffer, then now is a good time to take charge ready to get yourself into some good habits for summer.
Are you ready to have your healthiest summer yet? Here are some things you can do to get started.

Make better food choices
Being stuck at home for most of the last year hasn’t been easy. Getting takeaways, baking and making nice food have all been ways of enjoying ourselves during lockdown, but they might not have been the healthiest of choices! The good news is that it’s not too late to make a switch to a more balanced diet.
A balanced diet shouldn’t exceed more calories than your body needs in a day. It should contain a balance of protein, carbohydrates and fat to give your body the nutrition it needs. Learning more about foods that are rich in protein and measuring your portions can help you get back on track and stop you from eating more than your body needs.
Get active
Longer, warmer days can provide you with some great motivation to exercise. Whether you get up early to go for a run or hit the gym after work, it’s important to fit exercise into your day. Even if you’re short of time, you can find ways to exercise at home too, making it even easier for you to be more active. Try to walk more and make the most of the sunny weather, it will lift your mood as well as burn off some energy.
Let go of stress
Stress can take a significant toll on your health, which is why it’s important to learn to manage it. People learn to deal with stress in different ways, including through exercise, meditation and therapy. You could even explore THC as another way of relieving stress. Finding the right solution for you could be a combination of different things, but if stress is affecting you on a daily basis, it could be a sign that something in your life needs to change.
Do the things that make you happy
The pandemic hasn’t all been doom and gloom. It’s given people the opportunity to take time for themselves, and that’s something you need to continue – even as things open up again. Making time for the things that make you happy will help your mental health and wellbeing, helping you take some time to relax. Unwinding after a busy work week is important, so try to take some time to yourself over the weekend.
Your health and wellbeing is important, and even if things have slipped lately, it’s not too late to pull it back and start taking care of yourself. With some new habits and a fresh outlook, you can get ready for a great summer and make it your healthiest one yet.
