Common Problems Encountered After Rainy Season

07/12/2020

The rainy season comes along with the lure to hop on delectable meals, appreciate the beauty of nature, and snug in your blanket with a mug of hot chocolate.

Seems wonderful, isn’t it?

But when you wake up to the realities of the rainy season, you see the massive amount of challenges waiting for you. These challenges are home-related issues which often occur due to excessive rains. These unpleasant guests (house-related issues) come without prior notification to ruin your ultimate fun of the rainy season.

Here, the good news is that you can wave off such problems with a minor precaution, well-maintenance, good material usage during the construction work, etc. If you are about to or just bought a new home, surf through some of the most common home-related issues encountered during rains.

  • Roof or ceiling leakage – How many of you have looked at the ceiling with a thought in mind ‘how long will it drip like this?’ Well, this constant thought is common in most of the houses constructed with negligence. Ceiling leakage is often witnessed around the roof ridge or at the seam between the two roofs. There can be countless reasons behind it like – inaccurate installation of equipment or water pipes, non-standard ceiling material usage, etc. Such problems can end up in cracked or falling roofs, causing accidents. People must look upon a roof covering equipment that safeguards the ceiling from all corners. If not this, get enough ceiling tiles to get rid of ceiling leakage issues.
  • Ants in the home – It seems like ants and rain are true friends. Why? Because whenever it rains, we see countless ants all around the floors and every nook and corner of the house. Just like human beings, ants look for a protective shelter to avoid the rain. As a result, witnessing ants in home after it rains is a common affair. Ants need a dry place to remain safe. Therefore, they approach human homes, especially during the rainy season. Now, the only solution to this problem is checking windows and doors for any crack or hole, removing vegetation that touches the walls of the house and removing debris around the home, etc.
  • Gutter drain – We all know the rain droplets descending from the clouds blend with leaves and dirt particles. This ends up in debris which often clogs the drainage system in the homes. It happens due to the leaves, and other material stuck one the gutter’s open mouth. The only solution to this problem is to remove dirt, debris, wood clogs, and other waste material from the gutter. Keep the surrounding area of gutters clean to avoid such conditions.

The bottom line –

Leaky walls or dripping water droplets from a corner of the ceiling are some of the common visuals in any home, especially after a heavy rainy season. Where it may seem like a minor issue, it says a lot about your weak home construction or poor maintenance. If not taken care of at the right time, it can end up into major problems like the reconstruction of the faulty walls. Therefore, making a few preps before the winter season is a must.
