Is Your Home Secure? Updating Your Security For The Winter

20/09/2019

When it comes to our homes, they are our biggest investments. So we need to do all that we can to protect them. But more so as the winter draws in. The nights are darker, the temperature is cooler, and of course, there is the festive season which means that we potentially have gifts and other things in our homes that opportunists are looking to take advantage of. So is it time for you to update the security in your home? Here are some of the things that you can consider.

Alarm systems

One of the first things you may want to look at in your home is the alarm system that you have. Do you have one in place? When was the last time it was checked or upgraded? You may find that you could be in a position to upgrade your current system or install a brand new one to keep your home secure. These days alarms systems can link to your phones, special security departments that call you if there is an issue and even local law enforcement. There are some great options out there and it could give you the peace of mind that you need. Plus they do work as a visual deterrent as well.

Adding cameras and CCTV

Maybe you could go one step further when it comes to home security and look at the options of adding security cameras to your home. This could be a real comfort to you when it comes to being away, as may cameras could also be linked to your phone and the alarm system you put in place. Enabling you to see what is going on. It might not be that hard to have cctv installation in place, and it could even be a benefit to your home in terms of value as well as security. It could also work as a visual deterrent as many cameras are visible and evident on the front and rear of homes.

What about the inside?

But why stop there? If you spend a lot of time away from your home, for things like traveling with work or generally being away, it can be a great relief to add motion sensors inside your home. This can then set off any alarms and cameras that you put in place. The cameras in your home can also work if you leave pets at home, you can always check in to make sure that they are safe and happy. You could only put them in place as and when you need them, such as going on holiday or around the festive period.

Doors and windows

Finally, the doors and windows are easy entry points into your home, so it may be worth looking at investing in them with an upgrade. Windows can come with locks, be double or triple glazed, and a lot more secure than they used to be. Doors can also be much more secure than they once were, with double locks and reinforcement built within them. Getting new ones installed can be a real relief when it comes to increasing the security levels in your home.

Let’s hope these tips help you when it comes to keeping your home secure in the winter months ahead.
