5 super quick and super simple living room updates you can do in a weekend!

15/07/2019

Summer is finally here! And just like we change our summer wardrobes for the season ahead, it’s perfectly acceptable to want to change our living spaces too! When was the last time you updated your living room? Christmas time? Whenever it was, I’m sure it feels like a life time ago! So, how about a change?

Don’t worry, you won’t need builders, plasterers, painters and decorators or a degree in interior design. Just some time, patience and a little imagination. Enjoy!

Your skirting boards

Believe it or not, but skirting boards can really make a difference when it comes to interior design and style. But so many of us don’t notice that they’re even there! Skirting boards keep your walls protected from furniture bumps and scrapes as well as disguising the joint between the walls and your floor. However, skirting boards can look old, scruffy and when they need TLC – it shows! You can either update yours – for some simple yet elegant style check out the skirtings r us website – or simply repaint them with some high gloss paint. You’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner!

Update your layout

Remember when you were a kid and changing the layout of your bedroom made it feel like you were in a completely new room? Well, the same applies to your living room! Changing the layout is super easy. If the TV and sofa are in perfect harmony then don’t worry, you could create a reading corner with your favourite arm chairs or bean bags. Move the coffee table or swap accessories from other rooms and see how they fare in your living room. If you only have a small space to work with, try adding a rug, or moving the pictures on the walls around.

Your cushions

If you’re short on time and on a modest budget then scatter cushions are your new best friend. Colourful, versatile and easy to switch and change, scatter cushions are extremely versatile and can dramatically alter any room. Available in every shape, colour and style you can think of, you can update your living room effortlessly.

Add a gallery wall

Home is where you should display all your wonderful memories, so why not put them on show with a gorgeous gallery wall? This is ideal if you’re stuck with some plain walls and don’t know what to do with them. It’s the perfect way to give your living room some personality and effortless style.

Introduce some greenery

There’s something about house plants and succulents that just give a room character and a gorgeously feel. They add plenty of colour and shape to your living room and even help to purify the air. If you’re working with a small space then try introducing some small cacti or succulents to mantelpieces and your shelving units. If you’re not green fingered and you’re worried about keeping your plants alive, don’t worry you can always purchase some false ones instead!
