Looking after your health should always be the priority, and often enough, we can let life get in the way. Sometimes our health can take a dip, and we’re unsure what the cause of it might be. Here are five things that could be affecting your health.
Stress
Stress is certainly something we all go through, and it is caused by any number of factors. It might be work-related or a situation that’s currently happening with friends or family that is putting you under a lot of strain. When stress is reoccurring, this can be very harmful to the body but not only that, it can affect your mental health. Being able to recognise your stress symptoms can hopefully help towards removing the thing that’s causing them in the first place. Common symptoms of stress include anxiety, headaches, fatigue and chest pain. Managing stress can be a lot easier said than done but there are ways that can help combat stress. These include:
- Regular exercise – Find something you enjoy doing so that it becomes something you love, rather than something you hate.
- Relaxation techniques – Just breathing through it can help, but also you may want to consider yoga and meditation.
- Spending time with friends and family – There’s nothing more pleasing than being around those who love you, and they can help build you up if you’re feeling stressed out.
Your Teeth
Yes, it may sound weird, but your teeth actually can be connected to your health. Looking after your gums and teeth should always be a priority, no matter what your age. With your teeth, if bacteria builds up, then it can directly affect your gums and cause you to suffer from gum disease. When your gums are then compromised, the teeth can lose its support, and that could lead to tooth loss. Some people can function on just a few hours sleep, but everyone is different. You might not be able to do the same, and if you’re waking up feeling sick or feeling like you’ve not slept a wink, then it’s time to look at your sleep routine and what you can change to make you feel better. Try to get a good seven hours sleep per night, and if you don’t get enough during the week, it’s good to catch up on the weekend with an extra lie in.

Your Social Life
Your social life can affect your health whether that’s a lack of one or having too much of it. Not having enough social contact can definitely make your lonely and more vulnerable to issues with your mental health. Everyone needs someone to talk to, whether that’s just general chit chat or to discuss more serious issues. But on the flipside, you can have too much of a social life that you’re not making any time for yourself. It’s good to be comfortable in your own company, and if you’re spending so much time with other people, you can end up feeling more conscious when being alone. When it becomes too much, it’s good to say no. If those friends really care about you, they won’t be bothered or annoyed if you decline an invite. You can’t always be available at the drop of the hat, so make yourself a priority every now and then.
Your Eating Habits
What we put into our bodies, food-wise can make a difference in how we feel on the inside. Some foods can give us a lot of energy whereas other food may taste good, but it’s actually making us feel sluggish and building up bad fat around the body and organs. It is definitely important to eat healthily, but you shouldn’t deny yourself an indulgence. That being said, it’s all about moderation and how you balance it out with exercise and other healthy food. Look at your current diet and pay attention to how much junk food or alcohol you are drinking each week. It might look like a bigger amount than expected, so see what you can cut down on. It will certainly make a difference in how you feel, and over time, you’ll likely notice your skin’s appearance is healthily, and you have more energy in general.
As well as maintaining a healthy diet, this should be paired up with plenty of exercise. Incorporate it into your daily routine, and it will become more of a habit and less of a chore.
