How To Cut The Cost Of Kid’s Clothes In Half

06/11/2018

New parents are always surprised at just how much money they end up spending on clothes for the kids. They seem to have a natural talent for ruining clothes, it seems like as soon as you buy them something new, it’s covered in mud or ripped in 5 minutes. They also grow out of them before your eyes and you’re constantly having to buy new stuff. That can get pretty expensive and when you’re trying to budget for a family, it’s a bit of an issue. Luckily, there are some simple ways that you can save money on kids clothes.

Hand Me Downs

The kids are probably going to complain about this when they get a little bit older, they’ll always want new stuff. But you can save yourself a whole lot of money if you’ve got more than one child by passing down clothes from the older kids to the younger ones. As long as it’s still in good condition, keep anything that your older children grow out of. Then you won’t have to spend nearly as much money on your younger children’s clothes.

Share Clothes

Kids clothes are usually pretty gender neutral these days which gives you more opportunities for sharing clothes so you only have to buy half as many. Things like coats, gloves, and jumpers etc. can easily be shared between a few different children. If you buy things that are fairly neutral that all of the kids won’t mind wearing you can save yourself a lot of money this way.

Sell Old Clothes

When everybody in the family has grown out of something and you’ve got no need for it anymore, why not consider selling it? There are some great sites that will give you money for old clothes which you can then use to buy new stuff. The same sites are also good sources of second hand clothes that will save you quite a bit of money.

Find Discount Codes

You can make some great savings on clothes for the kids (and for yourself as well) by looking for discount codes. There are plenty of websites like Netvouchercodes.co.uk that regularly post voucher codes for all sorts of different items, including clothes. As long as you check the site on a regular basis, there’s no need to pay full price for things.

Shop In The Off Season

Planning ahead is the best way to save money on your clothes bill. If you’re buying all of their winter coats when the cold weather sets in, you’re going to pay a lot more than you would if you bought them during the summer. If you shop in the off season, the prices will drop drastically. You can get everything they’ll need for the following year for a lot less this way.

Go Straight To The Back Of The Store

All shops are specifically designed to get you to spend more money. So, the most expensive stuff is going to be front and centre when you walk in. The deals are always going to be at the back so ignore everything else and head there straight away. You won’t be tempted by any of the more expensive stuff and you’ll end up getting a lot more for your money.

Stores also arrange things in this way to encourage people to buy collections. They display matching outfits on the mannequins near the front of the store so if you buy one item, you’re more inclined to buy the rest to go with it. But the thing is, it’s usually a lot cheaper to put together your own outfits with the cheaper clothes instead. Just be aware of the marketing tactics employed by clothes stores and don’t get drawn in by them.

Garage Sales

You might think that garage sales are only good for getting old books and knick knacks but you can actually get some great deals on kids clothes if you look hard enough. You’re not going to get good stuff every time so you’ll have to go to garage sales quite regularly to get the best deals. Going to garage sales in affluent areas is a good tip as well. People are more willing to get rid of expensive items and they’re not too bothered about getting lots of money for them so you can get good quality clothes for a low price.

If you use these tricks when you’re shopping for kids clothes and make sure that you’re buying quality over quantity, you’ll spend a lot less on your monthly clothes bill.
