How To Reduce An Echo In My Room

05/10/2018

Having a constant echo in the bedroom can be extremely discomforting. Some of the major causes of echoes in a room include high ceilings, surfaces that reflect sound and so on. There are several ways in which one can reduce the echo in a room. Today, we have put together a list of effective tips and suggestions that will help you to reduce that terribly annoying echo in your room.

Here’s everything you need to know:

1. Use Rugs And Carpets To Cover Your Floor

If you have a hardwood or tile flooring in your bedroom, there are high chances that you will be bearing the brunt of a constant echo. Installing rugs and carpets on the floor of your bedroom can prove to be effective for more than just visual benefits. Rugs and carpets can deaden any sound that is being reflected from the flooring by absorbing the muffled noises and the sounds. If you’re looking for a carpeting option that is more permanent and long-lasting, you can get a wall to wall carpet installed in your bedroom. This may be a slightly pricey option but it will take care of the echo problem permanently.

2. Cover The Windows And Walls With Tapestries And More

Another effective way to ensure that you don’t have to hear that echo in your bedroom is by covering the windows and walls with tapestries and other accessories. Glass windows and hard walls act as a sound reflecting surfaces. You can use thick drapes and curtains to keep your windows covered. Further, you can also use canvas paintings, wall hangings and other such tapestries to cover up the walls to prevent echoes. If your bedroom is a large and spacious one, you can install a ceiling to floor bookcase to cover the wall and prevent the noise from bouncing back.

3. Install Wall Panels In Your Bedroom To Battle That Annoying Echo

Wall panels can prove to be a real boon when you’re trying to reduce the echo in your bedroom. You can install absorption panels on the walls of your bedroom. These acoustic absorption panels absorb the sound that would have typically been reflected back by the original wall creating an echo. These acoustic art panels are beautifully designed and are available in a variety of different shades, colors, patterns, and designs. Not only will they prevent and reduce the echo in your bedroom, but they will also add a charm to the décor of your bedroom. You can even invest in acoustic ceiling panels if you have loud and noisy neighbors living above you. All these wall and ceiling panels are easy to install, affordably priced and are simple to maintain too. They are long-lasting and durable and will not deteriorate when exposed to humidity or moisture in the bedroom.

4. Install Upholstered Furniture In The Bedroom

If your bedroom has hard wooden furniture without any upholstery, you will end up dealing with that annoying echo. One effective way to reduce the echo in your bedroom is by ensuring that the furniture that you install is upholstered. The thick tapestries and clothes on the furniture will absorb the noise instead of bouncing it back.

5. Use Plants Around The Room To Reduce The Echo

The installation of plants can be very effective in reducing the echo in your bedroom. The corners of the bedroom are the best spots for these plant installations. You can place beautiful potted indoor plants that require minimum maintenance and sunlight. The plants will prevent the noise from bouncing off the walls and will work well to reduce the echo in your bedroom.

What Causes An Echo In The Bedroom?

Now that you know how to fix the echo in your bedroom, let’s discuss what it is that causes the echo in the bedroom so that you can prevent the problem altogether:

  • Wooden floors are one of the major causes of echoes in the bedroom. A hard wooden floor acts as a sound reflector and makes the bedroom echo. If you’re going to opt for a wooden flooring, you need to make sure that you have an adequate number of carpets and rugs to cover a sizeable amount of the floor so that the echo can be reduced or prevented.
  • Surprisingly enough leather furniture can play the role of a sound reflector and cause echoes in the bedroom. If you have installed leather furniture in your room, you need to make sure that you throw some couch throws, tapestries, and couch pillows on the leather couches to prevent and reduce the echo. The fabric of the tapestry will absorb the sound and prevent the leather furniture from acting as a sound reflector.
  • Large glass windows can also play the role of a sound reflector. If you have large windows in the bedroom, you need to make sure that they are kept covered with thick curtains and drapes so that the bedroom doesn’t echo and the sound is absorbed by the fabric.
  • High ceilings are another cause of bedroom echoes. Most people are now opting for open layouts and high ceilings for their homes. These high ceilings end up causing a stadium effect in the bedroom and that leads to an echo. To avoid and reduce the echo in a bedroom that has a high ceiling, you can install ceiling panels for sound absorption.

Now that you know what causes echoes in the bedroom, you can prevent it from happening altogether. Having a constant echo in your bedroom can be a real pain and we totally understand your plight. The tips and suggestions that we have given to reduce the echoes are tried and tested and are 100% effective. So if you need to reduce that bedroom echo, you need to start investing in carpets, rugs, tapestries, plants and other such sound absorbing items. These echo reducing hacks can also be used in other parts of your home and they are also effective in commercial settings.
