Feeding your wedding guests – the do’s and don’ts

12/06/2018

With your wedding day fast approaching and there being so much to plan, discuss, budget for and with everyone from your future mother-in-law to your great aunt twice removed wanting to make their opinions known, you may have to find time to remind yourself that it’s your wedding and (for once) it’s all about you.

However, when it comes to your wedding guests and their dining experience, there are a few things you can do to make sure that they feel welcome, content and happy to keep celebrating with you and your new husband/wife all night long.

Get their mouths watering!

Waiting for a sit down meal is fine, but it can be seriously lacking in anticipation. Having your meal choice plonked in front of you can often feel disappointing, especially when the guest chose it weeks ago and can barely recall what they ordered. Why not make an impression on your guests instead? Imagine the smell and the sight of a hog roast welcoming your friends and family into your reception? Hog Roast Machines are easy to hire and could even be a cheaper alternative to appetizers or an evening buffet.

Or you could have a bountiful table display of hors d’oeuvres and cocktails that will really make your guests mouths begin to water! If you serve the starters in this way, then they’ll be even more eager to see what their main courses look like.

Dietary requirements

Ensuring your guests have all their dietary requirements met is crucial to any wedding. Not only will it keep your guests happy, but it’ll stop a potential visit from an ambulance! Having them tick a box on their invitations to indicate if they have special dietary requirements would be a good place to begin. You could then speak with them directly about what they can or can’t have.

Once you have the correct information, you can speak to your caterer at length and discuss options. You want your vegan or gluten free guests to feel just as satisfied and “wowed” by their meal as everyone else. Make them feel special and you’ll get hosting points!

Make your menu personal

What’s your favourite food? Is there a special dish that you and your partner fell in love over? Just because you love chicken nuggets and chips, cheeseburgers or garlic bread doesn’t mean you can’t incorporate it into your menu somehow. Ask your caterer to perhaps play homage to your favourite dish and give it a more upmarket feel! Chances are that they’ll love customising your menu for you.

Show off some local fare

Live near a brewery that crafts local ales? By the seaside with fresh seafood available daily? Or a farm that produces award winning meats? Why not treat your guests to some local fare? Not only will your out of town guests enjoy this experience, it’s also another way for you to inject some of your own heritage into your big day, and remember, that’s what it’s all about!
