Creating Playful Paradise From Little One’s Bedroom

07/03/2018

Children are like curious sponges, they soak everything in as they grow up. Interactions with the outer world are crucial for forming their personality and building character through time. In that sense, designing a warm and stimulative personal space for your child is important for healthy upbringing.

Your little one’s bedroom is supposed to reflect their own, mini-world while providing a safe environment that’s cozy and suitable for playtime and rest. If you need some creative designer ideas on how to make an original interior your youngest ones will love, keep reading.

Try the Monochromatic Approach (It Doesn’t Have to be Boring)

When it comes to decorating your little one’s room, you can try to make it simple for starters. Choose one soft, calming colour and then play with its different hues to create a well-connected and aesthetically balanced space. Think about what type of ambient you want to create. When deciding on the wall colour, take in mind the findings in the department of colour psychology as different tones can truly influence our mood and overall feel of the interior. Recommended bedroom colours include pastel blue and green, as these tend to lower blood pressure and are easy on the eye. You can always create a more lively segment in the room that would serve as a playtime corner by reaching out to bolder colours or even wallpapers. Just keep in mind your priority should be to create a relaxing and soothing environment.

Coordinate Furniture and Pay Attention to Details

To create a serene ambient that’s also playful, opt for furniture that’s child-safe and made of natural wood such as birch or oak. Most of the manufacturers offer cot beds, drawers, and wardrobes with white or light grey top coat, as it perfectly fits into the gentle ambient of baby and toddler rooms. To kill two birds with one stone, pick one of the high-quality nursery furniture sets so you don’t have to worry about coordinating different furniture pieces. Of course, you don’t want to create a space that’s too sterile and plain. Incorporate some details to make the room more personal: you can add a fuzzy rug in a bright colour or make your own stickers and customize the surfaces. You can always experiment with fairytale motives or funny, kid-friendly animal characters.

Create Coziness With Cushions

Your kid’s bedroom needs to be properly adapted. This includes child-proof protection such as securing sharp edges, excluding any type of glass material and keeping electrical equipment out of reach. In addition, you should keep in mind that once kids start making their first steps, they will want to explore and try out different types of movement. To make a comfy and safe surroundings, create a mini sofa with cushions. You can even try a DIY project and make a floor pillow bed or even a couple of ones, so to create a fun lounge zone. Use old cushions you don’t need anymore, combine different patterns and create your child a perfect place for daydreaming with the company of its favorite plush toys.

Ensure Great Lighting and Fresh Air

In addition to all the design elements and specific details, you have to pay attention for letting in enough light into the room. Avoid heavy, opaque curtains that completely block the sunlight and opt for cotton materials that are a bit transparent. Lighting can affect our mood and behavior and you should definitely take time with choosing the proper light system. Try calming lights (colour temperature at or below 3000K) that will help your kid wind down before night time. If you have the resources, you can also invest in adaptable and smart lights that can be adjusted to the specific time of day.

Of course, your child’s personal taste will evolve through time, but you can easily create a nice surrounding for them from their earliest days and then switch it up as they grow. Let them develop a relationship with their space and support them in having their own sanctuary where they’ll feel like a king in a castle.
