Only two weeks to go until the big day and after a couple of weeks of absolute stress and emotional upheaval I’m ready to bunker down with the kids and enjoy the Christmas season properly now. I’ve great plans for lots of curling up on the sofa with Christmassy books, family film watching marathons and lots of luxurious festive food. The kids books are all in a bit of a muddle between their dad’s new house and my flat and so I’m not totally sure which books are where, so I’m really making the most of some of the Christmas titles that I’ve been sent to review this year.
In the muddle of everything, I’m not totally sure who sent me a copy of Angel’s Great Escape to review, but I’m so glad they did as it’s just a perfect story to share with the kids.
Two families live on Eve Street, but they couldn’t be more different. The Mean Family consists of Mr and Mrs Mean along with their son Meany. As they set to sort out the box of their Christmas decorations they are moaning and whining about how old and rubbish they are. Their son talks about how they should all be sold. Poor Angel hears this from inside the box and she’s heartbroken.
Across the street live the Good Family.
“Mum and Dad Good and their three little tots
Shared cuddles and laughter and love, lots and lots”
I know which family I’d rather be part of. And so does Angel. Along with her decoration friends she plans her great escape.
Angel, Fairy, Snowman, Reindeer and Teddy make a dash for it, but they weren’t counting on the meanies cat from trying to stop them. Nor did they anticipate who else they may meet on their way.
Angel’s Great Escape is a beautiful festive story. A story which gives plenty of opportunity to talk to your little ones about the differences between the Mean Family and the Good Family and what really matters at Christmas. Written in rhyming text it’s lovely to read out loud when all snuggled up together and the accompanying illustrations are gorgeous, really bringing the story to life. It’s a definite must read in our pile of Christmas books.
